Damien's P.O.V.

The burning gaze, however, did not worry me in the slightest.

Originally I had come here to talk about border issues, and how some of Adrian's pets have been invading my territory.

The proof had been all too obvious, according to my very own Court Officials, but I had been wary of the details because it sounded too suspicious, and it was wrong to act blindly on mere accusations.

But it still begged the question: Why would the wolves have any business on Vampire territory?

Before I left to journey here under diplomatic reasons, I had left my most trusted Adviser in charge of finding out the details.

I'd have sent an emissary to deal with this, but it was only just a few days ago that the wards surrounding Verlas flickered.

A sight never before seen, I only had to wonder: What were those wolves up to?

I was right in coming here. My suspicions were not too far from their mark, as seeing the wolves were definitely doing interesting things, such as harboring humans.

Though, I'd only encountered the female, I heard another faint rumor about another human who was, at current, unaccounted for. The meeting from earlier only confirmed this, and served to peak my interests.

I'd only ever tasted human blood once, from an emissary I had sent out centuries ago to search for the mysterious little creatures known as humans.

Being so close to another being with the rushing, pulsing, liquid life, was absolutely...tantalizing.

"Yes, because ship wrecking on an island -that isn't even on the maps- was practically an invitation, wasn't it?" The human spoke, her voice filled with enough venom to be a Vampire.

An interesting thought, actually.

Waving my hand dismissively, I continued, "However you got here does not matter. What does matter, is that you are here." My words caused the dainty creature a few feet from me to tilt her head, her eyes clouded with unasked questions.

When her lips parted to begin uttering unintelligible human words, her Mate interrupted.

"What do you mean by that, Damien?"

With a smirk that served to rile up the two, I revealed what had been bothering me for the last few days.

"I had a dream the other day," a poetic start to terrible news.

"'I had a dream'" The girl mocked under her breath, but I ignored her.

"about the end of Verlas."

The silence was palpable, and the tension could be cut with the swipe of a claw.

I had successfully caught their attention, and as I peered through my lashes to the couple, I spotted ghostly pale faces, and trembling limbs.

They knew something. Something important, because there was no doubt of mocking in their tortured gazes. There were no unbelieving accusations being bellowed.

Did they know something? Most likely.

"Verlas in flames, and from the ashes, a snake."

This bit of information seemed to hit hard, because the girl's knees caved in, and if it weren't for her Mate, she'd have sported twin bruises on her knees.

Violet's P.O.V.

What the hell is going on?!

I didn't want to think that what the Vampire King was saying was real, but the moment he said them, the moment the words settled in the air, an electrical buzz seemed to flutter over my skin.

Control your emotions...

A voice in my head whispered.

The buzz along my skin seemed to ring in my ears as well, shrouding the thought in a blank noise.

"What more can you tell us about your dream?" Adrian's voice from besides me sounded distant, and a moment later, my vision was not my own.

As the tingling sensation continued, it was as if I was looking from afar, the feeling of disembodiment was uncomfortable, but I was slowly losing the grip I had on myself.

I could feel it, like grains of sand slipping from between my fingers.

"Nothing much. The moment I woke up, most of it disappeared, but the other day, it was so vivid- The whole country, mine, yours, the forest- all of it, burning. Then, through the fading embers, this inky snake slithers on the ground and hisses something, but I couldn't hear it properly..."

The Vampire King looked almost concerned and bewildered, and seeing the expression on a being whose existence was tied to being cold and unfeeling multiplied the buzzing sensation.

"What are we going to do?" Adrian's voice was soft, and he turned towards me, seeming to altogether forget the presence of the other risk in the room.

When his question was meet with silence, he stepped closer to me.

"Violet?" Concern and question laced his voice.

It wasn't until his hand clasped mine that the buzz, the vision, the feelings, all of it, dissipate, like a passing storm.

"Violet?" This time, Adrian's voice was filled with urgency.

He was still holding me, and his grip tightened.

It was not me that answered, but rather, a rude prick called 'fate'.

"We need to talk."

I've decided to finally continue to move the plot further and it's taking a lot more time than I realized, so that's why I've separated it into chunks, as to not overwhelm you, but also to keep you on your toes.

The next chapter will be chapter 17!

I hope you enjoy this chapter!

BTW, sorry it's short! I'll make up for it later!
