Mon-el's POV

I sat at the edge of my bed. I lived on my own now. Imra and I divorced and worked something out with the Titan Alliance. My shirt was off, I was getting ready for bed. It was so quiet in my apartment. I did miss having someone with me, but it wasn't Imra I missed. Sometimes I would torture myself and think if Kara was here. A life we would have together, but instead of that reality, I just had that small, blue stone necklace. I reached for it, and it reminded me of the day I left her. The day everything changed.

My phone started ringing. I reached over to my nightstand and picked my phone up, wiping my brow.

"Hello?"

"We need to go back to the 21st century," I heard Winn say over the phone.

"What?"

"They need us. They said something has come to Earth. Kara is hurt. They said they need the Legion" He rambled. He sounded worried.

"Ok, I'll be on the ship soon," I replied. Kara is hurt. It echoed in my head. She was the girl of steel--How could she be hurt?

Kara's POV

1000 years and 1 hour earlier

I landed in the center of the park downtown. I saw a figure using heat vision on civilians. It looked like a man, but his fists were shiny like metal.

"Hey!" I yelled out, getting his attention.

He turned around, smiling when he saw it was me. "Ah, Kara Zor-el. Just who I wanted to see." He said. There was something off about his voice. It sounded automated, but I knew it was a living thing speaking.

He kept walking toward me. "How do you know me?" I asked him.

"My databases have information on all of Krypton and Daxum. I know who you are, who your parents were. I know all there is about you."

"Databases?" I asked him.

"Allow me to introduce myself," He grinned, making me feel uneasy. "I am Kryptum. A genetically and cybernetically engineered Kryptonian and Daxumite hybrid. Created by your own father, Kara."

What? It was the first I had ever heard of cross-breeding between the planets. And my father? How could he do this?

"Well, I can't let you hurt any more people," I told him. Then I ran toward him at superspeed, trying to land a punch in his gut, but he unleashed strength I did not expect. He dodged my punch kicked me in the ribs. I could hear them cracking. I tried to get up, but he burrowed his fists into my head. I could hear ringing. I touched my forehead and observed my fingers. Blood.

He grabbed me by the neck, dangling me from above. I grabbed at his hands, choking, but he was too strong.

"You are a fool, 'Supergirl.'" He laughed as I struggled. "Your father designed me to be five times stronger than a regular Kryptonian when exposed to the yellow sun. I am twice as strong as you are under a red sun, and have the combined powers of a Kryptonian and Daxumite. You really think you can tell me what to do?"

"Why are you here?" I struggled to say.

"I was created to physically piece Krypton back together, as a last resort, but in order to reach my full strength, I need the life force of a Kryptonian or Daxumite." He stroked my cheek, "That means you, Kara. Unless you can find me another who fits my needs, I need to take your life." He laughed again and squeezed tighter on my neck.

"Alex!" I wheezed out into my communications system.

"We're hearing everything, Kara, we're trying to figure something out."

"You have a little help there don't you?" Kryptum asked, using his super hearing to hear Alex. He reached toward my ear and plucked out my earpiece, crushing it with his fingers.

"M-my father would ne-never create--a killer" I croaked.

"Maybe not, but he never finished programming me. He input my task and efficiency, but the planet exploded before he could finish. All I know is that killing people was the fastest way to get your attention."

I stared at him, tears in my eyes. This was the one moment in my life where I really didn't know what to do, how to get out.

"You have four days until the summer solstice. That's when you'll be strongest, the best time to take your powers, your life. You'll meet me at the power plant. Alone."

"What m-makes you th-think I'll come?" I asked him.

"Because if you don't come, I'll destroy the city and everyone in it. Starting with, Alex-was it?" He smiled. "And if you do come, I leave to go the space and never return. Based on my personality analysis of you, I know you'll make the choice that protects Earth." He finally released his hand from my neck.

"I suggest you start saying goodbye to your loved ones," he chuckled, wiping his hands off of my blood. "I'll see you soon."

And just like that, he flew off into the night. I laid on the ground, heaving, struggling to keep my eyes open. My lungs stung with every breathe I took, the world going fuzzy around me.

"Kara!" Mon-el's voice called out in my head, and I drifted off into blackness.
