Mon-el's POV

-4:25 pm- earlier that day

I walked through the DEO, looking for Winn for any updates. I found him at his desk working on something.

"Hey, Winn," I called walking up to him.

"Oh hey, Mon-el. I think I got the coding right this time," he sounded excited. "I just have to run it through the simulator."

"Sounds good," I said.

He pressed some buttons on his keyboard and code started running through the screen. I was hopeful for a couple of seconds when the screen started blinking red.

"Damn it!" Winn pouted. "I thought this would work."

I watched him work for a couple more seconds. He was typing vigorously, wanting to save Kara just as much as I.

"Wait, I know what to do!" He said, realizing something.

"What? What is it?"

"I've been trying to recode Kryptum, to set him to self destruct or leave for good, but if I just write some random, messed up coding, it might jam up his system, make him malfunction." He said, excited once more.

He redid some of the codings and ran the simulation again. This time after a couple of seconds a flashing "MALFUNCTION" came onto the screen.

"Yes!" Winn exclaimed.

"'Yes' to what?" Alex asked walking up to us, J'onn close behind.

"I found a way to make Kryptum malfunction!" Winn grabbed some sort of drive from beside the computer and plugged it in, loading the code onto it. "After studying the Kelex, I pretty sure Kryptum will have the same port as this in the back of his neck." The code finished loading onto the drive. "If you plug this into him, he'll shut down."

"That's awesome, Winn. I'll take it to Kara, I'm meeting her soon anyway." I said, Winn handing me the drive "Where is she?" I asked.

"She went to back to her loft a little while ago," Alex said.

"Great, thanks," I told her, and I ran out to the balcony and flew to her loft.

-4:45 pm-

I was walking down her hall, the drive in between my fingers. I smiled to myself. We had found a way to defeat the man who wanted to kill her. I couldn't wait to tell her, knowing this time I could have more time to spend with her. Maybe now that the threat was gone, I could tell her how I felt. Maybe I could have a life with her.

The smile was quickly erased when I got to her door and found it ajar.

"Kara?" I said aloud, pushing the door open a bit. "I know I'm a little early, are you in here?"

I stepped through the doorway to a dark and empty apartment. The window was open, the curtains gently flowing in the wind.

I started to worry. She had kept so many secrets when I got here, what was she hiding now?

I looked over to the kitchen counter and found and note labeled "to Mon-el" and her reporter's recorder sitting right next to it. I slid the drive into my pocket and reached to pick up the note, my hands almost shaking, knowing what I might find. I unfolded the note and started reading.

Mon-el,

I'm sorry, but I needed to do this. There was no other way. And I'm sorry I lied, I'm sorry about the secrets. There are so many things I wish I could tell you, do with you, but what's important is that Earth is saved, and there is a chance that Krypton can be rebuilt. The recorder has all my goodbyes. I couldn't say it in person, but I hope you guys will understand why I had to go.
You'll find my body at the power plant.

I'm sorry, my love.
Kara

My heart quickened its pace, my eyes stinging with tears. No no no no, I thought to myself, How did I lose her again? I was in complete shock, my eyes glued to the paper. I could almost hear her voice as I read the note over again. I'm sorry, my love, she had written.

What if I could never tell her that she was forgiven?

I looked up at the clock. It was 4:50 pm. Ten minutes before she expected me. Ten minutes before she expected that she would be dead. Maybe there was still a chance.

I quickly stripped off my normal clothes to reveal my suit underneath, took the drive out of the pockets, and I launched out of the open window.

I had never flown so fast with the Legion Ring, but the wind was sharp against my face, drying the tears I had once shed when hope was lost.

When I landed at the plant, I hated what I saw. Krytpum stood in front of Kara, his back to me and blocking what I hoped was her and still alive. He had something plugged into the back of his neck, and his body was shuddering, pulsating with power.

He seemed vulnerable, and this was my chance. I knew it was risky. He was absorbing power, and if he regained consciousness while I unplugged him, he would surely kill me. And how could I save the woman I loved if I was dead.

My heart fluttered with that realization as I sped toward him. There wasn't a point in the seven years I was gone where I stopped loving Kara. Never a moment when I decided I was over her. But maybe it was too late.

As swift as I could, I whipped out the dagger from a plug in the back of his neck and rammed in the drive. For a second he stood still, but he turned around, and look of anger of his face.

"I'm going to kill you," he growled at me. He started charging at me, but after a couple of steps, he stopped, his legs giving in, sparks flying from where the drive was plugged in. He was malfunctioning.

He screamed out and crippled to the ground. When his body finally fell, that's when I saw her.

She was dressed in all white. Blood was all over her stomach, spread on the concrete around her.

"Kara!" I yelled out to her, running toward her body. I took her hand in mine and knelt down, my knees dipped in the puddle of red.

"No, Kara, wake up, say something c'mon!" I cried, tears forming in my eyes. I placed my trembling hands on her face. Her cheek was wet with tears and the rosiness was gone, she was pale. her eyes open, looking toward the skies.

"Kara it's me!" My voice cracked. "I'm here, we're together now, I'm not going anywhere, okay?"

She stayed unmoving, her face grew cold as she once described my hands to be. "Kara, please," I sobbed, "Wake up! Please! He's gone, Earth is safe, he's dead." Tears fell down my face.

I moved her body onto my lap. I held her, sobbing, moving a strand of hair out from her face.

"I never stopped loving you either," told her, brushing my thumb over her cheek, "So you have to come back, so we can be together, okay?" I gave a weak smile as if to comfort her. But she would never hear me.

I looked at my ring. Maybe I could time travel to save her. I looked up toward the sky but realized Winn's coding wouldn't be ready if I went back. And Kryptum wouldn't be as vulnerable as he was without her sacrifice. Not even time travel could save her.

I looked back down at her face. I remembered the first time I realized I loved her, when I realized I wanted to keep her safe forever.

I bent down and pressed my lips to her's. It had been so long since I kissed her, but it felt like coming up out of water for a breath of fresh air. I'm sorry, my love, she had written. "It's okay, my love," I whispered.

I lifted my head up to look at her face, her eyes. Her eyes were still so blue, like comets. I hoped I would see a reaction. I hoped that they would brighten up as they used to when I kissed her, that they would stare back into my eyes with a look of love.

But no matter how hard I hoped, she was gone, and her eyes stayed blank.
