Mon-el's POV
I sat with Kara in my lap, dazed, frozen with grief, anger, sadness, disbelief.
I took my hand and gently closed her eyes. She looked like she was sleeping now. I remembered the first time I was able to wake up with her. She was peaceful, beautiful.
I couldn't accept this. I couldn't accept losing Kara as I had once done before. But I knew I had to take her to the DEO first, her family needed to know.
I gingerly picked up Kara's body. One arm under the creases of her knees, and the other on her upper back. Her arms dangled, her body limp. She was ice cold.
I lept off the ground and to the skies, flying to the DEO, my feet planting down on the balcony. I stared ahead, into the building. Winn, Alex, and J'onn turned around from discussing something at the round table. They started walking toward me.
"Mon-el, who is that?" Alex asked, concerned.
I laid Kara on the ground in front of me, kneeling down next to her, tucking her hair behind her ear. I stayed silent, still in shock.
They got closer, but Alex stopped in her tracks, finally getting a closer look. "Mon-el," She said, voice shaking, "please tell me who that is."
"It's Ka-" I started, silently sobbing. "It's Kara. She's-"
"Mon-el?"
"She's dead," I whispered, not taking my eyes off Kara's face. "I was too late. She's dead."
I heard Alex start to sob, running up the stairs and kneeling down next to Kara. She was followed by J'onn and Winn.
"No! Kara, no!" Alex cried. "It's Alex! I'm right here, I'm right here, okay?"
"She's dead, I was too late," I whispered. "He killed her."
"Get a stretcher," J'onn whispered to another agent.
"What happened?" Winn asked, devastated.
"She gave herself up the Kryptum," I replied, voice cracking. "I put the drive in him, but I was too late."
A group of people came by with a stretcher. "We need should her now," J'onn told me, placing a hand on my shoulder.
"No," I told him firmly. "I'm not leaving her."
"Mon-el, you should go clean yourself up, we need to do the same for Kara."
"No, I can't leave her."
DEO agents started to move her body onto the stretcher, but I threw myself over her. "NO, YOU CAN'T TAKE HER, I CAN'T LEAVE HER," I yelled, sobbing.
J'onn motioned his head and about six DEO agents walked into my direction. They started grabbing my arms, pulling me off her body. But I resisted. I screamed, yelled, cried out. I didn't want to leave her.
"No!" I screamed. "The last time I left her, he killed her! I'm not leaving!" I kept repeating this, crying out.
They finally were able to peel me away despite my efforts, and I watched as they loaded her onto the stretcher and led her away.
I sat on the balcony, the DEO agents finally letting my arms go. I was out of breath, tears fogging up my vision.
...
I had finally cleaned myself up and changed. My suit was covered in Kara's blood. They had placed Kara in the med-bay, she was still in her white shirt and pants, a huge stain of red on her stomach.
I sat next to her, not daring to touch her, fearing that the coldness of her hand would bring back the reality that she was dead rather than simply sleeping.
Alex sat on the other side of her, Winn, J'onn, and now James behind Alex, their eyes red and puffy. We hadn't said anything to each other yet.
I replayed the past in my head over and over. Kryptum absorbing power, Kara, dead on the concrete, her blank blue eyes.
Kryptum absorbing power. But what power was that? Who's? How did he have it? Then I remembered the dagger on the floor. He wanted Kara's power.
That dagger must have been full of it, I was sure.
I suddenly stood up, the stool I sat on my a screeching noise against the floor. Everyone looked up toward me.
"I think I know how to save her," I stated, looking at Kara.
"Save her? She's already dead." Winn spat out.
"Kryptum wanted Kara's power, right? Then he must have had a way to harness that," I explained. They all started to look intrigued. "When I was there, he had this Kryptonite dagger, he was using it to take her power. If we can harness that, we can give Kara her powers back, her life force back."
"Ok, but even if we can get that, the injuries she's sustained are fatal," Alex said.
"Yes, but you could repair her injuries how you would a human because she's vulnerable now, and with her powers back later, she should be able to recover."
"That might work," J'onn commented.
"I may be able to harness the power," Winn said. "But it may take some time."
"I'll go get the dagger," I said, eagerly, and jogged out of the room
As I flew from the DEO, hope returned to my heart, knowing that there was a chance to see her smile again, laugh again. I would hold her, feel her warmth, and after almost eight years, be able to love her once more.
