BLAKE'S POV

"Time for school, Blake." My mum whispers, gently shaking me awake even though my alarm hasn't gone off.

Stretching out with a slight grumble, I sit up with my legs crossed in front. My mum is sitting next to me with her usual gentle smile. If I had shorter hair and piercings in my cat ears, I'd look almost identical to her.

"This year is going to be different." Mum assures me with a soft kiss to the forehead as I'm rubbing the sleep from my eyes. "And Sun will be with you."

"Dad won't be happy about that." I smile a little. Mum rolls her eyes with a smirk, knowing that Ghira will definitely not like it.

"He'll get over it... Eventually." Mum shrugs with a smile. She flattens my bed hair slightly before scratching a spot behind my ear, making it difficult to hold down the hum in my throat. "Your father is making pancakes, but please, don't hide your ears."

"Just a few weeks, just until I know what the people are like." I tell her, grabbing the thick black ribbon from my nightstand.

"Alright." She sighs, kissing my forehead once more, then standing up. "Your father should be finished with breakfast soon."

"I'll have a shower." I tell her with a smile lightly, watching her shut my door behind her as she leaves the room.

My shower is quick though I take a long time to get into my uniform because it's ugly as all heck. Once I'm ready, my ears hidden thanks to the bow upon my head, I leave the comfort of my room. I walk into the kitchen, humming quietly at the sweet smell of pancakes filling the kitchen.

My gentle giant of a father is finishing up the pancakes while my mum is fixing a pot of tea.

"Morning Blake," My father greets, raising an eyebrow at my bow but saying nothing about it. "Excited for your new school?"

"Yeah," I half lie, placing three pancakes on a plate along with blueberries and chopped strawberries. "I'm glad Sun will be there, so I'll know someone."

My father grunts at that but says nothing as he helps his wife with the mint tea. I eat my pancakes, politely waiting for my cup of tea, thanking them when mum passes one over.

"Would you like to be dropped off?" Dad asks when I've put my plates in the dishwasher.

"No, thank you. I'll walk with Sun." I smile softly at my father's brooding face.

His face relaxes with a sigh and a nod, kissing my forehead. Though, the second there's a knock at the door, he makes himself scarce but not before wishing me a good day at school.

"Hey Blake, hi Mrs Belladonna." Sun greets cheerfully when my mum opens the door.

"Call me Khali, please." My mum tells him. I can't help but roll my eyes as I shoulder my backpack. "Have a good day you two."

"We will, Mrs Bell - Khali." Sun's smile still planted firmly on his face.

"Bye mum." I go in for a hug, which probably shocks my mum but I don't stick around to find out because I grab Sun's arm and drag him out the door.

"Your dad still doesn't like me, huh?" Sun frowns a little as we trail through the streets to school.

"He's getting there." I shrug, sending the tall monkey boy a hopeful grin. "After Adam, he's wary to say the least."

"I guess, but I'm not like him," Sun frowns a little, staring at the pavement, then looking up at me. "I promise."

"Hey," I stop, lightly grabbing his arm to stop him as well. He frowns a bit more at me. "I know you're not like Adam, so does my dad. My dad is just being cautious and protective. It's not you."

"I guess." I stare at him for a few more seconds until he sighs and realises I'm right. "Just wish he'd trust me a little more, that's all."

"He will, one day." I smile at the taller boy, letting go of his arm. "Come on, we're going to be late."

We make it to school about ten minutes before the bell rings, and get our welcome packages. Unfortunately, Sun isn't in my homeroom, and we only share English, Science and History together but it's something and that's better than no classes together at all.

With a hug, Sun and I part ways when the bell goes off. I'm quiet as I follow the chatty guide to my homeroom. The girl can't be older than fifteen with short black hair that's red at the tips. She also has a red cape... I didn't know capes were allowed but I'm guessing this girl wasn't going to give it up. She seems sweet but deadly.

"And this is our class, my sister Yang is in here too!" Before I can say anything, she runs straight into a white haired girl. "I'm sorry!"

"Watch where you're going!" The girl snaps at the younger one, Ruby? I think that's her name.

"Hey, it was an accident, she was just helping me find my homeroom." I tell the crabby girl gently, hoping she'll calm down a little.

"She should still watch where she's going." The girl grumbles.

Unfortunately for myself and Ruby, she walks into the same class as us.

"Ruby!" I hear another girl yell excitedly. We both turn as a blonde girl runs over and embraces her sister. I try to ignore the fact she is very good looking. Try. It's hard because she's very pretty.

"Hi Yang, this is the new girl, Blake!" Ruby informs her sister after pushing her off. "This is my big sister, Yang."

"Nice to meet you." I mutter quietly, forcing my blush down.

"You can sit with us!" Before I know it, Yang has my hand in her very soft one and is dragging me to some desks in the front row.

I look at Ruby for help but she just shrugs. Very helpful.

Yang and Ruby try very hard to get me to talk but I just remain quiet, feeling awkward. I end up pulling my book from my bag to read. Ruby asks me a couple questions about it, which I answer politely while Yang just stares. Not in a bad way though. The staring I'm used to are people staring at my cat ears - which are ichy right now - Yang doesn't seem to realise I have cat ears, she just seems to be studying me, and for once, I don't mind the staring
