Meet Hailey
I sat at the table eating this big breakfast my mother cooked me and my little sister. Pancakes, bacon, grits, hash browns with a big cup of OJ. It was so good. "Okay girls that's enough, you're going to be late for your first day of school!" My mother said. "Ugh, do I have to go?" I said panting because I was so full. "Yes, its the first day. Go get your bags girls, I'm dropping yall off." she said. I got up and went upstairs to my room. I was grabbing my bag when I passed my mirror. I dropped my bag and stared in the mirror. I lifted my shirt up and grabbed my fat stomach and tried to pull it off. I turned to the side and grabbed my love handles. I pulled my shirt down and went back downstairs. "Hanna, are you excited for your first day of highschool?" I asked my little sister. "Yeah, I am, I dont know what to expect!" she said excitedly. "Don't expect much, Highschool sucks kiddo. Especially Dixie Springs High school ." I said walking away.
Mom dropped us off at school. My stomach dropped. I hated school. Not because it was hard but because of the people there. This was my last year in High school and I knew it wasn't going to be any easier than the last 3 years. 1st block was Gym... great. It was the first day. You know what that means. Fitness exam. When it was my turn Amanda Singer yelled "Dont break the scale fat ass!" The gym erupted in laughter. Every eye was on me as I walked over to the scale and stepped on it. As I stepped on the scale, the scale creaked and everyone laughed. The scale read 207. When I stepped off Amanda yelled "How much ? 6 tons? Fatty!" the gym erupted in laughter again. I said "Fuck you bitch!" Amanda walked off the bleachers, got in my face and said "What did you call me fat ass?" I looked down. "That's what I thought bitch, You better not say shit." She reached in her bag and pulled out a snicker. "Go eat this, even though you already seem full, I know you're hungry fat bitch." She put the snicker in my shirt. I ran into the bathroom, in the handicap stall. I fell on the floor and started crying. I pulled the snicker out my shirt, ate it and cried.
After school, I had to go to work in the mall at cold stones. "Welcome to cold stone, would you like to try our new flavors?" I said "You're really pretty!" I looked up to see a tall skinny woman with brown hair pulled into a neat bun with glasses. "Yeah right" I responded. "No, You really are. You ever thought of being a plus size model?" She said enthusiastically. "Never crossed my mind" I said sadly. "Here, take my card" she said handing me a business card. "Woah, 16 Magazine? You're Shelly Robinson? The chief editor of 16 Magazine?" I asked excitedly. "So you've heard of me" she said giggling. "Have I? Im subscribed to 16 magazine! I read every page!" I said. "I'm flattered! Give me a call...." she started to read my name tag "Hailey" She said.
The next day after school, I gave Shelly a call. "Hello? May I speak to Shelly Robinson please?" I said "Yea, I'll hold" *10 minutes later* "Shelly Robinson" I froze "Hello?" "Uh.. hi Ms.Robinson! This is Hailey.. you gave me your card at Cold Stones yesterday afternoon?" I said wishing she will remember me "OH! Hailey! Im glad you called. I want you to model for my magazine." She said "Uh, really me?" I asked "Yes, You! I want you here Saturday morning at 8:30! No excuses! Just say 'Star Fish' at the gate and the guard will show you where to go" "Uh, Okay but-" I started "Dont be late" She hung up. I was so excited ! So ready for Saturday morning. I just had to get through the rest of the week.
Saturday morning, I took a shower, washed my hair and put on the best clothes in my closet. I arrived at 16 Headquarters at 8:25. The guard let me in and led me to this photo shoot. I seen Ms.Robinson. "Oh Hailey! Okay, so I'm doing an article on Big VS Little. All I need you to do is get dressed and take pictures! GO GO GO! Go to makeup and hair!" she pushed me to the make up and hair. I was sitting down getting my hair done when I seen the other model. She was really skinny but pretty. She walked over to me and held out her hand. "Hi! I'm Molly!" she said "I'm Hailey" I responded "Why the long face? This is the one in a lifetime chance! Be happy smile!" she said "I am happy... I just don't think that I am pretty enough, good enough" I said "Are you kidding me? You are gorgeous! Even though you are larger.. you are still beautiful! Your blue eyes, your pretty blonde hair... your dimples. THAT SMILE! You are beautiful! You better start loving yourself. Accept yourself flaws and all. If you don't think your pretty.. who else will? You have no reason to be insecure if you love yourself" After she said that, my mood changed. I became energetic!
2 weeks after on Sunday I got a package from USPS. "Special Delivery From Hailey Fiddlesteine! Sign here." I signed the sheet and ran to my bedroom. My sister was right behind me. I tried to close her out but she said "Can I come in?" in a real Sweet voice. "Fine" she smiled really big. I opened the box and it was a copy of 16 magazine and some clothes, shoes and accessories. My sister grabbed the magazine and began flipping through it. I was looking through the clothes which were very cute and I seen a note from Shelly.
Hey beautiful! The article turned out GREAT! Here is a token of my appreciation! I was wondering if you will model for my magazine more? Like a 2 year contract? We will keep in touch. Stay golden!
Shelly Robinson
"HAILEY! LOOK, YOU'RE ON PAGE 24! YOU LOOK GORGEOUS!" my sister screamed. I took the magazine and seen me and Molly posing for the cameras. To make it short, the article was talking about how people are bias towards big girl and small girls. The article said that every girl is beautiful in their own way. It might not be appearance, but whats on the inside. Its usually one of the other. "My big sissy is a supermodel!" My sister said.
I wore some of the new clothes to school the next day. Knowing every girl at Dixie Springs High read 16 magazine. I wore the red maxi dress with the jean vest and some sandals. I put my hair in a neat ball and put a little make-up on. I looked really nice. When I got to school, every girl was telling me how pretty I looked in the magazine. When I went to my locker Amanda came up to me. "Hey Hailey! You look pretty today" "Thanks" I said. "I seen your picture in 16 magazine and you looked really gorgeous." "What do you want Amanda. I'm surprised you're not joking about my weight" "Uh, about that, I'm really sorry, I was a bitch to you.. I'm sorry.. " she said "Yeah, you're right, you are sorry." I said with a grin. I started to walk away when she yelled "Hey, CHUNKY GIRL! DON'T WALK AWAY FROM ME!" I turned around and got in her face. "You know Amanda... usually talking about me and my size would upset me. But now, I don't even care. I have confidence now. Why are you so insecure about yourself?" "What? me insecure? Look at me! You wish YOU LOOKED LIKE ME! I'm going to be in 16 magazine next! Just watch" "You are insecure. If you wasn't .. why do you have to point out my flaws? Oh and I don't think Shelly would want an insecure slut in her magazine" She just stood there looking shocked. I walked away. "Hey Hailey" a deep voice said. I turned to see a tall slim cute boy with dark hair. His name was Robby. "Hey Robby! Whats up?" "You look real nice today" he said "Thanks" "Do you want to go out sometime?" he asked. WOW! Was this really happening? Robby Jacks is asking me out? "Yeah! That will be great!" I wrote my number on his hand and walked away.
See, You dont have to be skinny to be beautiful. Your flaws is what makes you beautiful. Thanks to my new bestfriend Molly, I learned that! Me and Robby date was wonderful! I even had my first kiss. Now, me and Robby have been dating on the boyfriend and girlfriend status for 3 months now. We are even planning to go to college together! Love yourself, flaws and all.
