Jungkook walked quickly, the plush runner that stretched down the hall muffling his excited footsteps. He was on his way to visit Taehyung, with whom he had grown exceptionally close with over the past few days.
Even though the time had been short, they seemed to be drawn to one another by some strange invisible connection. The type of connection they shared, however, was . . . undefined. Jungkook wasn't sure exactly what he wanted, just that it always involved staying close to Taehyung.
It was strange, really. For instance, when they would hang out, Jungkook would always feel this strong and warm contentment resting inside his chest. The feeling of happy friendship filled the room they were in. Other times though, when Jungkook would—for instance—watch Tae run his large hand through his brown locks, or his tongue dart out over his lips—or even that one day when his pants were just a little too tight—Jungkook would feel a similar heat, but this one pooled somewhere low in his abdomen. He was sure he knew what that was, but knew better than to acknowledge it. They were great as friends, and he didn't want to screw it up.
Jungkook reached the dark oak wood door that led to one of the many guest rooms in the Gyeongbokgung palace and knocked on it lightly. He heard a loud thump from the other side followed by a grunt of pain before the door opened, Tae standing in the doorway. He rubbed the back of his head, wincing in pain.
"Oh, hey Kookie, didn't know you'd come here tonight, you startled me."
"Sorry," Jungkook laughed, ears turning slightly pink with embarrassment.
Taehyung stepped to the side. "Come in."
Jungkook walked into Tae's familiar room, looking around at the mess of clothes that littered the floor. Hold on, he thought, what's going on? His room isn't usually this messy. Then, Jungkook noticed the large Gucci suitcase open on the bed.
"What's going on here TaeTae?" Jungkook asked suspiciously, his back turned to the brunet.
Taehyung grimaced from the throbbing pain in his head and the harshness that Jungkook spoke to him with. "Before you freak out, sit down and let me explain."
Jungkook plopped down obediently on the large bed, Tae sitting beside him. Taehyung sighed, looking into Jungkook's brown doe-like eyes before quickly gazing down at his own hands. "I was going to come tell you after I finished packing, but obviously I didn't get the opportunity." He laughed dryly, squeezing his hands together. "I'm really sorry Kookie, but I-I have to leave. Tomorrow."
Jungkook's eyes widened and his lips parted in surprise. "L-Leave? Why?!"
Taehyung looked back up into the boy's face. His eyes were full of sadness, like those little puppies in the PETA commercials.
"The prince has figured out who he wants to marry, Jungkook. He wants us to leave right away . . . we aren't n-needed anymore." Taehyung hiccuped, covering his face with his hand as be fought back tears. Jungkook couldn't stand to see him like this.
"That's a lie and you know it," he blurted.
Taehyung's expression changed from dejection to one of confusion. Was Jungkook being delusional on purpose? "No, Kook, it's not, they said we have to—"
Jungkook quickly interposed. "I'm not talking about that. You said you aren't wanted, but you are wanted."
Taehyung let out a weak chuckle, moving his hand to run through his hair and biting down on the inside of his cheek. "That's a little off topic, isn't it?"
