Namjoon watched as his grandmother fell to the ground up on the alter, the fabric of her hanbok flying around her like a pair of wings. At first his mind tried to deny what he saw as the screaming of the hall filled his ears and a few guards ran up to the queen while the people running jostled him around. It must've been a trick of the light, right?
The shock still hadn't worn off when Namjoon felt himself being dragged away by Wonho, fear washing over the bodyguard's handsome face. As he was pushed away from his seat amongst all the people dressed in black, he noticed that was the first time he had ever seen the bodyguard this scared.
"Let's go Your Highness!" he yelled, yanking Namjoon down the hall and through multiple doorways, clearly with some important destination in mind.
Suddenly, his cousin's face flashed across Namjoon's jumbled brain and almost made him stop in his tracks. Fuck, was he okay?!
As if he had read his mind as they turned a corner, Wonho said, "Don't worry about Jungkook, he, his parents, and Taehyung are safe."
The panic cleared a little from the prince's pale face after the small reassurance and he nodded as his bodyguard led him to a hidden trapdoor underneath a rug in the floor that only the royal family and their guards were aware of. Wonho threw off the carpet and dug his fingertips into the gap between the floor and the concealed wood and flung it open, almost ripping it off its rusty hinges and letting Namjoon proceed him downwards.
Namjoon clambered down the ladder and into the dim passageway that was vaguely familiar to him from the drills that his family had done for situations like this. Wonho shut the door above them, throwing the concrete hall into complete darkness. Wonho pulled out his phone a second later and turned on the built in flashlight, shining it down the stretch of the pass.
Wonho went first and lead Namjoon forward for a couple minutes, turning through the complicated twists and turns up to a large metal door that he opened to allow the prince inside. The door led into a bunker that had been installed underneath the castle for safety emergencies. It had all the essentials; water, food (that was replaced weekly), and beds.
Namjoon almost fell over as a smaller body ran into him and squeezed his waist tightly. Jungkook sobbed into his chest while Namjoon patted him on the back consolingly. He led them over to one of the beds and sat down on it, holding his cousin in his arms and resting his cheek on his forehead. Taehyung walked over too, sitting down on the other side of his fiancé and rubbed his back. Namjoon noticed how bloodshot his eyes looked as well and thought that he had probably been crying as well.
Namjoon looked up into the room and made a mental checklist in his head of the people in it, his brain still trying to piece simple information together; Taehyung, Jungkook and his parents. For the third time that day, panic dominated his mind as he noticed two people missing. Shit, shit, shit.
"Wonho-hyung, where are Yoongi-hyung and the Queen Dowager?" Namjoon asked, his voice strangely calm for how scared he felt.
Wonho stared at him for a second and then bit his lip nervously, seemingly afraid to say anything to the prince. Almost as if Namjoon was a ticking time bomb, and cutting the wrong wire would make him explode. "I-I just got a message from the other body guards . . . No one can find him—your hyung. But your grandmother . . . She was shot—a-assassinated."
