I couldn't get used to this place. Every corridor looked exactly the same, if it weren't for the numbers on the doors of every room I wouldn't be able to differentiate one aisle from the other.
I never imagined that they had this type of program in the academy, I must say that it is a well-kept secret.
The closer we got to what my instincts said was the center of the building, the more children joined us. With every door we passed, I expected to catch a glimpse of my little sister's black hair, but that never happened.
When we arrived at our destination, the guards told us to form a line in front of a desk with a woman who looked like she could be a nurse or something and had a bored expression on her face.
To my surprise, seconds later a line of boys arrived and stood by our side. It was the first time they had let them be so close to us, except for the dining room and training of course.
I scanned the long line trying to recognize a Cato, but with the eyes of the guards following each of my movements it was impossible for me to look past the first three.
Nerves began to invade my body, I did not know why we were there and that freaked me out. My brain kept imagining a thousand and one scenarios of what could possibly be happening in the small room behind the desk.
— Jaine Aslow, Marshall Hover — I was in the middle of one of the scenarios when another nurse, much younger than the one who was sitting, interrupted my thoughts.
Un chico de cabello castaño de no más de 12 años y una chica con melena rubia pasaron a la habitación.
A brunette boy not older than twelve and a blonde girl went in to the room.
Time could not go by slower, my palms were beginning to sweat and I felt that if I cleaned them once more in my pants it would look like I had had an accident.
Minutes later the door opened, out came a guard carrying a small silver tray in his hands. Inside the room, Jaine and Marshall were surrounded by people dressed entirely in white, doctors I guess, some taking measurements, others taking samples of blood and there was a younger one that had a frown fixated on his face, extremely concentrated on the tablet that was in her hands.
A door opened behind them, if I had not seen it I would have sworn it was just part of the wall. I felt a little push, and that was when I realized that the line had begun to move again.
—Sorry— I whispered to the girl behind me, which only rolled her eyes. I took a few steps and my eyes returned to the hidden door.
I saw some figures approaching and squinted to try to see better. Several peacekeepers blended with the color of the walls, one of the purposes of their suits.
Several of them passed in formation, which only happened when there was someone important among them. When they moved, I saw the captain of the peacekeepers.
—Is that Kaile Madison? — I asked to the brunette behind me, her eyes blank.
She frowned and looked where I was pointing — He only comes when there is something important to take care of — she shrugged and ignored me again.
Unos segundos después llamaron a la chica delante de mí y pude ver con más claridad, Madison no estaba solo, el encargado del centro de entrenamiento y unos cuantos instructores se encontraban ahí discutiendo sobre algo.
A few seconds later they called the girl in front of me, which allowed to see inside more clearly. Madison was not alone, the head of the training center and a few instructors were there discussing something.
—Clove Green— I was inside the small room within a matter of steps, they took my arm and checked my tattoo, pricked my finger and gave me a robe to change.
I turned my head every couple of seconds to try to figure out what was happening in the next room, but I could not hear a thing.
They led me to a scale and then measured my height.
—You're too short and skinny — the woman said, but I wasn't sure if she was talking to me so I stayed quiet.
—... It's a delicate situation, if someone finds out about what happened here they'll finish us — Madison's voice was getting louder, he was coming closer and apparently in a hurry.
—I didn't think you would be afraid, a little girl cannot make the whole system fall apart Kaile, and if she does it will be your fault— Madison's face lost its color in a second and his hands began to tremble.
— Girl — the doctor forced me to look at her while she measured the size of my head and filled some syringes with liquids of the strangest colors.
—Turn around— I folded a corner of my paper robe to make my back more visible to her. I felt a cold liquid infiltrate my veins, and then pressure in the place from which it had originated.
—You're ready Green... Green? — I couldn't concentrate, a chill ran through my body. My eyes couldn't be watching this.
—¿Cassidy?
