Chapter 9
'BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! Thud'. I hit the snooze button on the alarm and pushed myself up off the bed. It's seven in the morning and I have to go to school. After, I gotta go to Katie's house to take care of Little Kaylin for a couple hours. Dad said it was ok.
I grabbed my PE clothes for my new school and shoved them into my backpack that held my book, The Help, and my binder with a coupled folders in it. I zipped my bag and picked up the clothes I set out last night: tye-die purple skinny jeans, purple tank top, and my Hipsta Please. crop top. I washed all my dirty clothes Sunday morning when I was alone for the day.
I walked into the bathroom and changed into my clothes I picked out. I brushed my hair then straightened it until it was perfectly straight. I brushed it one more time then flipped my hair forward and back an ran my fingers through my hair. I don't wear make-up so I don't even bother. I picked up my mobile, my headphones for the walk, my key, and my backpack and turned off the alarm so it wouldn't make that annoying sound anymore.
I walked down the stairs and out the front door; locking it. My phone buzzed in my back pocket. I took it out and smiled at Liam's text.
From: Daddy Direction
Hey Megan. Have a good day at school.
I quickly texted him back.
To: Daddy Direction
Thanks, Liam!
With that, I walked onto the sidewalk and walked the route to school. I noticed that there was only two houses on this street as I walked out of the private court; mine and the boys'.
I followed the path I was taught to school. I pulled my headphones out and looked at my new High School. I put my phone in my back pocket and my headphones in my packpack as I walked up to the school office.
The secratary sitting in the desk as I walked in, stared at me like I was an animal. I looked back her and flashed a smile, showing off my braces. She smiled back. "Can I help you?" she asked.
"Yes, actually. My dad enrolled me here and I need to pick up my schedule." I replied.
"Last name, hon?" she asked, typing on her computer.
"White. Megan White."
She patted around her desk. "I know I printed it out this morning!" I giggled. She found a white oice of paper with black writing on it and handed it to me. "Here it is." I thanked her. "Would you like a map of the school?" she called to me as I grabbed the handle of the door.
"Yes, please!" I said. She handed me a paper with a bunch of drawings of buildings with numbers inside the boxes.
I walked into my first class: Language Arts. Mr. Waltzman watched me enter the class an walk up to him. He looked at me schedule without a sound. He finally spoke after studying the sheet of paper and handed it back to me. "Everyone, this is Megan. She just moved here from-"
He looked at me and I whispered, "America."
"America!" He shook my hand. "I am Mr. Waltzman. You can sit in the desk right here." He pointed to a desk beside him. I nodded and took my seat. I took out a pencil, a notebook, and the textbook from under my chair.
I looked at the girl next to me. She had long brown hair, big glasses, and brown eyes. She was wearing a t-shirt with a heart and '1D' in the middle of it. Great! Another DIrectioner is sitting next to me! I smiled at her and tapped her shoulder. I quietly whispered, "What are we doing?"
She whispered back to me, "We are copying what he writes on the board. Just copy down everything that is on the board right now."
I nodded my head. "Thanks."
