Needless to say I failed my Chemistry test, but that didn't matter because the last bell had rung and I was happy to leave school. I found Eden by his locker, grumbling about the same test. His eyes narrowed at his Chemistry book before slamming the locker, locking the book inside.
I knew it was time to practice, but the heat did not make me feel any better about my day. While Eden was acting normal again, I couldn't shake off the way he acted in the morning. I tried brushing it off as him being in shock by the events, but it really looked like more than that. He still hadn't gotten back to his chatty self and as walked up the bleachers where Isadora and Calum stood I saw his fists tighten then release before anyone else could notice.
"Hey guys," Calum said as soon as we were at an ear shot.
I smiled in response and Eden waved, seemingly perfectly normal.
"What's up with you?" She asked me and of course Isadora would only pick up on my bad behavior of the day.
But instead of embarrassing myself I shrugged it off, not wanting to make it a big deal. I was upset, don't get me wrong, but I didn't want to tell the King of James High that I didn't have a date meanwhile he probably had twenty girls lined up for him. Nor did I want to tell Isadora who most likely could get any of the guys on the lacrosse team. It was like they were both unnaturally good looking, maybe finding out that there were monsters around really boosted your complexion and made you unnaturally attractive.
"He's upset because his date bailed on him to the dance." Eden blurted out and I immediately groaned. Leave it up to Eden to give out a piece of information that wasn't his to give out.
Isadora laughed and Calum simply shrugged, "Just go by yourself."
"I can't go by myself!"
"I'm going by myself." Eden said monotonous.
"Yeah, me too." Calum added in.
I stood in shock, gaping at Calum. Even Eden was scrunching up his nose at the thought.
"You guys know I'm not seventeen right?" Calum leaned on the bleachers and studied us, waiting to see our reaction. "I'm 25 years old guys. I've been a blood sucker for eight years. Going out with any of these girls is just really creepy."
Eden let out a really long 'ohh' and I soon followed, completely dumbfounded. The idea that Calum actually wasn't seventeen went completely over my head. I mean he looked like a seventeen year old and he acted like a seventeen year old so it was hard to see him as anything but. Especially as an adult who should have graduated college by now.
"So why did you come to high school again?" I asked. I could handle a cheshire cat with venom saliva but someone who wants to go back to high school? No, that was unbelievable.
"I never got to finish," He said as if it was no big deal.
"So we are all going to the dance dateless?" I confirmed.
The boys nodded and all that was left was Isadora who didn't contribute much to the conversation. She looked around the field glancing at the players. "Isadora? What about you?" She snapped her attention back to me and looked at each of us, trying to figure out how to answer the question.
"Oh, I don't go here."
"Then why are you always here?" I asked, again, confused as to why someone would want to be sitting at a lacrosse field every day.
Isadora slipped her side bag off her shoulder and rummaged through the small purse. She held a container filled with red liquid in her hand, "I have to bring Kool Aid to this guy."
