Fae's

The ice cream parlor was a small place just on the corner of a dark street. The place was run down, it was made out of old, cracked wood. The trees around it nearly swallowed the place whole and my face scrunched up at the sight of it. There wasn't a sign, there weren't any lights surrounding it, the parlor didn't even have a name. It looked like another small abandoned houseI looked over to Isadora for an explanation as to why she'd bring us here. The street lights flickered as she stood under one and I made a mental note to ask why that always happened to her. She stood in front of the small house that she called the parlor and turned back to look at Eden and I. Eden had the widest smile as he looked at the small wooden house and finally I understood. I wasn't able to see what he saw. I didn't have that kind of connection just yet. All I saw was a small house at the edge of a street that I was never allowed to even pass through as a child.

Isadora noticed my lack of amusement and handed me a pair of round bulky glasses that she got out of her backpack. The frame was made out of dim-colored stones and the glass was thicker than my watch, but she gave them to me with a kind smile so I took them without hesitation.

"Spiderwick glasses, they'll help you see things a bit clearer for the time being." Isadora said and glanced up at Calum who had glowing red eyes. I stepped back and he chuckled, but his demeanor didn't change.

"Are your eyes... are they always this way?" I stammered out. Calum nodded. He stood still with his hands in his pockets, the only thing different about him were his eyes. Isadora, however, didn't change at all. She stepped aside and the ice cream parlor finally looked as it should have. The brown wood turned into a bright blue, reminding me of the bubble gum flavor I suddenly wanted. At the very top a Neon sign read 'Fae's'. The lights from the parlor almost distracted me from noticing the neighborhood, which was all in different colors. Most of the houses were as bright as the ice cream parlor. They were covered in different shades with signs just outside on their lawns. When the glasses were off the signs mostly read 'Keep Out' or 'Private Property' in big red letters but now they were mostly all signs about the red moon sale.

"This street is not for blanies, obviously. If something looks dangerous enough, blanies keep away. But for us, these kinds of streets are the places where we get to be ourselves." She turned to head inside the ice cream parlor and Calum immediately followed her inside. The ice cream stickers placed on the windows of the parlor assured me that they served nothing but the best. Eden and I walked in together and the room was filled with different kinds of people that all looked fairly normal to me. Surprisingly, there were a couple of people that I noticed from school and I was greeted with a dumbfounded look that followed their wave. I wondered how long they had been around to see this place, what kind of being they were, and if they noticed that I probably wouldn't be able to tell this place was an ice cream parlor if I wasn't wearing the glasses. I rushed over to Isadora's side who was ordering rocky road and continued to order for Calum as he went over to find us a place to sit. Looking down at the flavor choices, I was overwhelmed. When I stood in front of the glass, the flavors would spin and change into new ones which made it impossible for me to settle on just one flavor. There looked like an endless amount so when Isadora asked what I wanted I told her bubble gum, just settling on the first craving that I had.

I went over to sit next to Calum and his eyes landed on mine. I haven't grown accustomed to them, not yet. I mean for crying out loud, I just noticed them. But the eyes were the obvious sign that he was a vampire. Ahem -blood sucker. He smirked as he noticed my staring and the dimple on his right cheek appeared. I felt myself blush and I immediately turned away, towards the people I recognized from school. I tried to pinpoint what they could be, but I wasn't able to tell just yet.

When Isadora and Eden arrived with our ice creams, I immediately regretted ordering bubble gum. My life, unfortunately, is filled with regrets. Isadora's glass jar that had the two scoops of rocky road, made my mouth drool and she rolled her eyes. Nevertheless, she handed me the jar and took my bubble gum ice cream.

I smiled in response and made a mental note:

Number of times that I believe not taking the potion was a good thing:

ONE - so far

My mind wandered off to Eden and his list, once again. A monster. He considers her to be a monster. I blinked hard in attempt to erase the memory, but that was ridiculous. I chewed on my bottom lip, wondering if it was best to keep it to myself.

"So Isadora," Eden said, braking broke the silence and my train of thought. "you said you didn't go to school around here. What school do you go to then?"

"I go to S.H. High, it's where my Mom lives." She said as she enjoyed her ice cream and I dropped the matter. She had said the obvious without oversharing and although she didn't look bothered, I believed it was better not to press her on the subject.

As Isadora explained her living situation, people around us grew silent and of course none of us noticed. She explained that her parents divorced when she was younger and although the break up was a little messy in the beginning, her parents worked it out eventually. The people at the tables around us sat back in their seats staring at something that was blocked from my view. Calum rested his hand on Isadora's shoulder and she settled down; her head made a slow turn to where Calum pointed. Just as my luck would have it, it was a group Mount Crest kids.
