This is set some time in the first season. I'm sorry if Ava is a bit OOC, I tried my best.It hurt.
The constant clawing in his stomach. The incessant hunger pains. The eternal stomach aches.
Furthermore, he often felt faint and dizzy, barely managing to hold onto the last threads of his concsiousness and avoid collapsing at random times.
Peter Parker did not eat enough. He wasn't anorexic, in fact he wolfed down any and all food that was given to him. He wasn't purposely starved, neglected or maltreated, his Aunt May did all she could to feed him right but there wasn't enough money to buy enough food for him, thanks to his boosted metabolism he needed so much more food than any normal person and he did so much more exercise as well. It didn't help that Flash would always take his lunch money so he could only eat twice a day.
It was because he was a freak. A strange, spidery freak.
He hated it.
Peter was horribly underweight but he had to try to hide how skinny he was. From when he first got his powers and realized that he was loosing weight he had managed to avoid getting his weight checked, until he joined S.H.I.E.L.D. and was forced to get a health check, that is.
Fury had insisted that it was for his own good; an essential process so that they could work out how much medicine was required when he was injured. Spider-Man couldn't see how it was supposed to be that benifictial, he had been Spider-Man for a year without needing to go to the hospital once! The problem was that he didn't want a medical check!
What if they punished him for being so underweight? What if someone came to the wrong conclusion about it? What if someone noticed the scars, mostly courtesy of Flash but also the occasional villain as well, that he had, for such a long time, concealed?
There were so many 'what if's that each thought increased his dread tenfold, not a single kind thought appearing to relive his anxiety.
Shaking, Spider-Man arrived outside the medical wing, it was too late to turn back.
Mere moments after he arrived he was called in. He desperately tried to control the trembling in his body as he walked through the door. Ava gave him an inquisitive and slightly judging look from where she sat on one of the beds with the rest of the team. Spider-Man wanted to scream. Why were they here? Was he not allowed to endure his torture alone?
Most of the health check went well until they asked him to remove his shirt. He didn't want to display his all too prominent right ribs or dozen scars.
Suddenly started to feel light-headed. His heart was racing. His thoughts were stopped in their tracks, only speculation about his impending doom remained. His vision faded in and out, eventually fading to black.
Spider-Man collapsed in a heap without warning. Luke rushed forward to move the arachnid off of the floor and was not so pleasantly surprised to discover how light he was. Power Man had never been all that close to Spider-Man or Peter Parker but he was instantly concerned for him because of how prominent his ribs were through the spandex fabric of his costume.
Gently, Power Man laid the spider down on the nearest hospital bed an looked at him with a mournful frown.
"Sweet Christmas! He can't be that light!" Luke exclaimed, turning around to face the rest of the team.
"What are you talking about? He eats so much, he can't be light with the amount he eats!" Sam scoffed, but he was secretly worried, he knew how Peter suffered in school and how Spider-Man was criticised in public, he didn't want him to suffer for other reasons as well.
"It could have something to do with his powers, we don't exactly know much about them. He doesn't tell us anything, it's like he doesn't trust us!" Ava ranted, she knew that she was being hypocritical but she didn't care, he was the leader, that meant that he was the one who had to share everything about himself with everyone else and dedicate his life to the team. She wasn't sure if she had meant what she said or was speaking out of anger but now that she had said it she couldn't help but feel that her comment was true
Ava's outburst had sparked a three way argument between her, Sam and Luke. Danny stayed out of the bickering, opting to sit by his unconscious friend instead.
When the spidery hero regained conciousness with a groan he felt four pairs of eyes on him.
It took a long time to explain why he was so thin to the team and Fury, who had arrived soon after finding out about Spider-Man's collapse (the nurses and doctors had been told to leave by Fury). Fury had decided that it was important for Spider-Man and Peter Parker to eat properly, meaning that S.H.I.E.L.D. would provide something for him to eat each day. Fury's decision was not based on his concern for the young hero! No. It was because all heroes had to be on top form at all times.
Over the course of a couple weeks Peter started to feel better, the ache in his stomach had all but ceased and the frequent dizzy spells died out quickly. In short, he was feeling much better than before being allowed to eat enough to fill his stomach.
Sorry that this took so long, this has mostly been written in ten minute slots before school. Updates may be slow for a while because I have been busy with exams recently. I've also had writer's block. Sorry, again.
