Sorry this took so long to come out, I've had writer's block for this. Several people requested a sequel for 'he can't speak', so here it is.

Peter woke up in a white room and blinked. He still felt a bit of pain throughout his body, meaning that he was either mostly healed or on high levels of pain killers, which was highly unlikely owing to the fact that he kept his increased metabolism such a closely guarded secret.

He looked around the room and saw his team. He almost smiled but stopped himself when he remembered how little they cared for him.

He had mixed feelings about being saved: on one hand, he was still alive, but on the other, he wasn't dead. A part of him desperately wanted to leave the pain of life but he also didn't want to die quite yet.

Spider-Man sat up in bed, catching his teams attention. They asked him a barrage of questions that were impossible for him to answer without the use of his voice.

Without even touching it, the poor spider could tell that his throat was even more swollen than before. He found it slightly difficult to breathe but he didn't think that his difficulty breathing would last very long.

It didn't take long for the team to shift from being concerned to being annoyed. They thought that he was not talking to them on purpose. After a few choice insults, the team stormed out, except for Iron Fist.

Danny removed his mask and helped Peter with his.

Peter didn't move for several minutes. He was staring blankly at the bedding, tears forming in the corners of his eyes, until Danny pulled him into a warm embrace. The tears escaped his eyes and slowly dribbled down the side of his face. Danny said nothing but words of encouragement to his friend until he calmed down.

Peter hurt. Physically and emotionally.

Why?

Why did he have to suffer like this?

Once the arachnid's tears had dried, Danny gently asked the boy laying in the bed a simple question, "Do you know what is wrong with you? Physically, I mean."

Peter nodded once. Yes.

"I hope you don't mind but I read your medical report."

Peter shook his head. He didn't mind, at least one person cared about him enough to want to know what was wrong with him.

The pair sat in silence for a few minutes until Danny filled Peter in on how the team saved him. Doc Ock had escaped and Fury had sent the team to  recapture him. They had found the villain killing Spider-Man and jumped in to help him. They were currently in the S.H.I.E.LD. medical bay.

Danny omitted to tell his friend about Doctor Octopus' final words to the team, telling them that they ought to pay more attention to Spider-Man.

The pair sat in silence for several minutes until doctors come in to talk to Spider-Man. Peter slipped his mask on quickly before they could see his face.

The doctors delivered the harsh truth about the arachnid's voice: he would, most likely, never speak again due to the extreme damage to his vocal cords. Spider-Man already suspected that. He'd had his throat crushed twice in as many days. The spider simply nodded to show that he understood.

Once the doctors were gone the teens had removed their masks again and Danny pulled his teammate into another comforting hug. He said nothing. What was there to say? I'm sorry? I hope you get better? No. The best thing to say at that moment was nothing at all, simply being there was good enough.

Twenty minutes later, Fury barged in and stood at the foot of the steal hospital bed. The spy glared at the young hero before him, he had seen security footage of what happened on that roof and he was not impressed. Spider-Man had not even tried to defend himself against the villain! However, his heart wasn't as shriveled and black as most people believed; he felt sorry for the young hero.

Fury briefly explained Peter's cover-story to him and told Peter that he could go home when he wanted but he would still have to come to training the next day. Peter nodded in response, once again. Just as he reached the doorway, Fury turned around and wished the teen a swift recovery (as much as possible, that is).

When Peter arrived at school the next day, the atmosphere was tense; it seemed that the team still did not understand that he could not talk. They bombarded him with questions that he could not answer, at least through the use of the basic sign language he knew or through nodding and shaking his head. His lack of answers appeared to infuriate his team even more. At least Danny stupid by his side.

Harry noticed the three people harassing his friend and demanding answers, he knew of Peter's predicament through the wonderful technology of a text message. Peter's so called 'new friends' would not get off his back.

Harry was furious. They called themselves his friends? He marched up to them and slapped Sam, the only one that wouldn't be able to hurt him back very much, across the face and delivered a series of a few choice words to the offending trio.

They scurried off.

Harry standing up for him wasn't really all that significant in the grand scheme of things but it made Peter happy.

Reflecting back on it, he now knew who his friends were so maybe, just maybe, loosing his voice was not such a bad thing after all.

I hope that you enjoyed this, if you have an criticisms or suggestions then please tell me. Thanks for reading.
