Billie and Maisie wandered back up the old worn wooden stairs back up to Billies grandmothers house. Billie had her mind on Curtis, as to how different he seemed to when they were children. It gave her a little hope that maybe people can change quite significantly. By the side of the garage where they got their boards, Billie and Maisie rinsed themselves under the shower and couldn't help but to push each other in the cold water, screaming and chuckling.
Billie tied her hair up into a bun and cleaned up her board and put it into the garage."Now what shall we do?" Maisie asked Billie as they could see the sun was finally settling.
Billies mind went to a blank as she looked towards asked Maisie " anything interesting going on tonight?"."I think there might be a bonfire that's being hosted by Curtis and all his friends. Might be a good way for you to see everyone again!" Maisie exclaimed as she laid out on Billie's bed as if it were her own.
" I guess, what are we even supposed to wear?" Billie asked as she headed towards her wardrobe trying to piece an outfit together." Nothing too formal, just casual maybe a crop top and shorts?" Maisie replied as she watched Billie take out a light blue patterned wrap crop top, and some denim shorts.
" That will do!"
The two had walked out the door ready to socialise and have a good night. As more teens were in their vision as they neared the bonfire Billie asked "Anyone's boyfriends I should avoid?" she joked."avoid Megan and her boy toy and you should be good' Maise replied as she linked up her arms with Billie to try and comfort her nerves of meeting so many old friends. Billie could recognise more and more people as their faces were lit up by the flames."Hey, Maise! What's up?" a short guy shouted as he dragged his girlfriend across to where the girls were. He gave Maisie a quick side hug and not long after she was tackled by the girl that he was still holding hands with.
Billie gave a small wave as Maisie introduced her
"hey mason and Emma, this is Billie. Mason would probably remember her from primary school".
" oh, Callie! What's up girl? Haven't seen you around here in years, you still a fish and spending your time in the water 24/7?" Mason nudged her, joke fully.
" I've barely been here 24 hours" Billie chuckled nervously." as soon as I walked through the door she dragged me to the water for a surf" Maisie teased her friend
." We bumped into Curtis he was on his own without all his friends"Emma looked the crowed while leaning into mason listening before she saw a certain blondie in the distance.
" Hey, Elliot! She shouted". His head shot up and searched the crowd for who called his name.
"Overhere man!" Mason yelled.
Curtis soon bobbed is head up and down as he confidently pushed through the crowd to the group. Mason and Curtis shook hands as Curtis glanced towards Billie looking her up and down briefly.
" hows it going sis?" he asked Emma.
"Apparently you were a loner today, why weren't you with us and the others on the other beach?" she asked him questionably.
He shrugged and answered" Felt like a change of scenery".
He then turned to Billie and said" long time no see?" with a small smirk. " how about you and I grab a drink?" he asked her. Maisie nudged her as Billie agreed and walked off with him to the esky. He picked up two apple ciders and passed one to Billie. She took a sip and slowly her heart rate had calmed down.
"What's it like seeing all these familiar faces after spending so many years away?" he asked her as they sat down on the sand watching the waves wash up on the shoreline.
"nostalgic, I guess. I haven't felt like I was at home until I came back, that's for sure"
He leaned more towards her as the sea breeze was starting to pick up and the two had more alcohol running through their system. "It's a pretty good place to call home," he said in agreeance. " did you maybe want to go surfing tomorrow morning?" he asked her looking directly at her.
Looking into his blue eyes she replied " yes".
