Crossing the date on her calendar she counted the days she had left until she left to her grandparent's place. 2 weeks and 3 days. I can survive that, she thought to herself. Thinking back to her best friend who lived a few houses down from her grandparents.
Billy had only moved to the city three years ago when she had started high school. Her parents thought that the school in her small town wasn't suitable enough and there were better job opportunities.
With Billie, they up and left and she hadn't been there for two years. Maisey and Billie facetimed the moment they had free time for each other every day. She was looking forward to being able to hang out with someone.
She brushed her hair put it up in a ponytail put her uniform on and headed to the kitchen. Making her morning iced coffee she put the piece of toast laying out on the plate for her in one hand. Slipping her school bag on she left out the door, preparing herself for another day.
It was lunchtime again and she had decided to sit underneath the tree carter and she had sat on the other day.
Pulling a book out of her bag she lent on the tree pressed against the harsh bark, contrasting with the soft grass.
"Hey Calli!" a voice shouted in her ear. Jumping at the sound she pushed Carter in annoyance.
"you made me lose my spot!" grumpily she closed the book not bothered to find the page she was reading from.
"oh sorry, how's your day been?" he asked sitting close to her.
"a day," she said non-descriptively.
"well, mine has been horrible. I have five exams next week and three assignments that I haven't even looked at" he said anxiously.
Looking into his tense eyes she ruffled his hair. "you'll be fine".
"That really helps," he said sarcastically, and his shoulders slumped.
"only two weeks left!" she said nudging her shoulder with his.
"I guess so," he said taking a bite out of his sandwich.
Billie hummed the familiar tune of last Christmas then sang underneath her breath.
"you're a beautiful singer" Carter had said looking at her lips and back to her ocean blue eyes.
Billie hadn't realised how close they were as she tried to hide her blushing face away from his peering eyes. She didn't know how to react. It wasn't normal that someone would complement her let alone a boy. Nodding her head to the statement, the two were left in silence.
"Got any plans for Christmas?" he asked her to fil the silence.
"I am going back to where I grew up to spend time with my grandparents. What about you?" she said interested.
"oh, um nothing much. Just the usual. Seeing family and all of that."
"nice"
"yeah"
"you know what I have never seen?" he asked her
"Santa?" she chuckled at herself.
"No, the snow. After all the American Christmas songs talking about snow it got me thinking. I should go next year" he said while picking up once of her chips and eating it.
"you should, it's not something to miss out on. Hey that's my food" she said swating his hand away.
"well its mine now," he said taking the entire bag and extended his arm upwards, so she was unable to reach it.
She reached her hand up towards him as he moved it. alright, game plan. She had thought to herself. I think its time for a tickle. She brought her hands to his waist and started to tickle him in hope to get the bag.
"ha-ha, stop, ah no" he complained as she has achieved her goal and had the bag in her hand.
He went to reach it again, but she started to walk away. He stood up and bear hugged her well tried to. Losing his footing he and Billie had fallen down with him stretching his arms over her.
The two paused in a moment in time. Deep breaths as they looked at each intensely. Billies heart started to flutter, and his blood pumped loudly in his ears. Ring, ring, the bell had interrupted their moment. Billie went to get up but knocked her forehead into his.
"ah"
"ow"
"sorry"
"it's okay".
