Carter and Billie had spent the last two weeks hanging out every lunch during school. It made the time go faster as well as bringing the two closer. They liked the same music, Tv shows, books, and Carter was quickly becoming the best friend Billie needed. Billie had agreed to spend the evening with Carter as she was heading to her grandparents place the next day. Billie walked up to the wooden door and knocked on it waiting for a reply. A younger girl who looked to be the age of 12 answered. "who are you" she questioned with suspicion.

" Oh, I'm Billie a friend of carter. Is he there?"

"CARTER!" the girl yelled out in response. Loud footsteps could be heard quickly running to the door. Carter nudged the girl away and looked down at Billie.

"sorry about Carmen, she can be a bit rude sometimes".

Carmen rolled her eyes and walked away.

"come in, mums making pizza for us and I've started the fire up".

The two walked past the kitchen to the back door and stepped out. a little bonfire surrounded by a circle of bricks was in the centre with blankets for if the weather turned cool. Billie went straight towards the fire kicked off her shoes and laid out next to it. Carter sat down beside her. "how long are you going away for?" Carter asked curiously.

"most of the holidays, I get back a week before".

"oh okay, I'll miss you"

"I'll miss you too, I'd never thought I would be best friends with someone this quickly"

"You're always learning I guess."

"yeah, I have no idea what I'm going to do after the next year of school. Do I go to Uni take a gap year? Ah" Billie complained.

"well you got 365 days to figure it out," Carter said looking at her.

Billie riskily lent her head on his shoulder as they watched the fire flicker. Carter lent his head down on hers and they stayed in the position for a few minutes. Billie shifted slightly, and carter lent his head down. Is he going to kiss me? Oh, my lord. Before billies thoughts could be answered Carters', mum yelled out "foods ready".

The two spent the rest of the night laughing at their inside jokes and memories of clumsy teachers. Billie gave Carter one last hug as she hopped into her car and drove away. Carter watched until she left the street. Wondering what would have happened if their moment wasn't interrupted.

Billie had woken up at 5:30 that morning ready to see her hometown. She got dressed into a t-shirt and shorts and put her up in a messy bun. Opening her phone, she snapped Carter. Humming she turned the coffee machine on and while it was warming up made herself some breakfast. Sitting down at the bench with her food she scrolled through her emails. Looking at her work roster for the month she made sure she wasn't on.

"Good morning sweetie," her dad said to her grabbing orange juice out of the fridge and drinking it straight out of the carton.

"No one likes when anyone does that, you do know that right?" she said to him.

Putting the carton down he replied to her" all well" with a cheeky grin. Rolling her eyes, she continued to scroll through Instagram.

She packed her clothes in her bag and dragged it out to the front door.

"all ready" her mum yelled out from the kitchen.

"yeah"

"yep"

Billie opened her car boot and placed her bag inside. As she was staying at her grandma's longer, she decided to take her own car.

"I'll see you guys there!" she yelled out as she closed the car door. Plugging her phone with the AUX cord she played her music and drove away to the highway.

She drove down the little hill and could see houses letting her know she had made it into town. She put her car windows down and took out her hair. As she neared the main road, she could smell the salty air. Little peaks of blue could be seen, and her heart raced out in excitement. Just a little bit further. There it was the main beach. She pulled up into a car park and looked out into the sea view. I'm home.
