harry potter: the twins who lived

chapter thirty-seven.

They fell for what seemed like hours, emma’s eyes stinging, as the wind gusts into her face. They are suddenly stopped, floating only for a minute in the air, as they fall with a small thump.
“ department of mysteries,” grunts ron, “ they got that right didn’t they?”
Emma looks over at the strange, towering object, which rested within a dim light.
“ the voices,” said harry, “ can you tell what they’re saying?”
“ there aren’t any voices harry,” said hermione, “ let’s get out of here.”
“ i can hear them,” emma said as she stood beside harry.

“ i hear them too,” said luna.
“ it’s just an empty archway,” said hermione, “ please harry.”
“ get behind us,” said emma as she and harry drew their wands.
The death eaters came down with gusts of shadows, coating the group, leaving the twins on their own. Ruth growls as he stands protective of harry and emma, the twins looking around, as the death eaters held their friends captive.
“ did you actually believe….or were you truly naive enough to think…” said lucius with a chuckle, “that children stood a chance against us?”
“ i’ll make this simple for you potters,” he looks at the twins, “ give me the prophecy now….or watch your friends die.”

“ don’t give it to him harry,” called neville.
Emma watched from harry to lucius, her eyes moving over, looking at her friends with a sad glance. A bright light suddenly appears from behind lucius, a smile on emma’s lips, when the man turns to sirius.
“ get away from my kids,” sirius growls as he punches lucius square in the face.
Bright orbs of light appeared, knocking back each death eater, as the order had arrived. Sirius had pulled the twins back, blocking an attack from a death eater, blasting his own spell at him.
“ now ruth,” emma commands and ruth nods to her.

Sirius continued to block their assaults, harry and emma assisting him, as they flicked their wands.
“ avada kedavra!”
Her eyes widen when sirius is hit, the man looking over at them, his eyes filled with sadness.
“ no,” emma gasped when the man began to slowly fade, “ no.”
Tears burned her eyes as she watched the man, a smile on his lips, as he began to fade further.
( note: sirius black will live.)
“ sirius!” emma cried.

Time paused as it stood still, the stone of the structure suddenly gaining small cracks, as a light appears within the weaving winds. Her blood was boiling hot, the tears falling down freely, when she caught sight of the man appearing again. Grey eyes look into her green ones, when the man breathes, staring dumbfounded as he kneels to the ground. From afar emma could see bellatrix, her eyes wide in shock, a sneer upon her lips as she disappears.
“ harry!” remus calls after harry when he ran after the woman.
“ emma,” sirius whispers when approaching the girl.
“ i’m sorry,” she pants with a sob, “ i-i didn’t want...”

Sirius shook his head at emma, wrapping his arms around her, as he tried comforting the shaken girl.
“ i-”
“ it’s alright emma,” remus soothed when kneeling beside the girl, “ sirius is safe, you saved him.”
Her sobs became small, hiccuping whimpers, as she hid her face in sirius’ chest.
“ emma,” ruth ran to her side, nudging his head against her arm.
She soon calmed down from her panic, looking over at ruth with a smile, as she pats him on the head.
“ thanks ruth.”

“ i’d be quick if i were you emma,” said moody, “ harry needs you.”
“ right,” emma nods looking at remus and sirius.
“ go on,” said sirius, “ we’ll be fine.”
Emma nods her head to them with a smile, hugging sirius one last time, as she quickly follows her friends.

The sounds of a duel echo inside the halls, emma’s heart racing, having fear for her brother’s safety. Emma pants when stopping, watching a harry had been on the ground, writhing in pain as dumbledore was beside him.
“ harry,” she runs over to her brother.
She falls on her knees as she looks at harry, who was panting when their eyes meet, as he had a dull lifeless look in his eyes.  
“ harry, you have to fight back,” she encourages, “ sirius is alive, we can be a family again.”
“ but you have to keep fighting,” her hand grabs his, “ don’t let him win.”
Harry grunts in pain, his eyes shutting tightly, as his hand squeezed emma’s.

“ you’re the weak one…” said harry, “ and you’ll never know love and friendship.”
“ harry,” emma smiles.
“ and i feel sorry for you,” harry whispers.
Again harry writhes in pain, his breathing becomes normal, as emma and dumbledore look up.
“ you’re a fool harry potter,” voldemort grins, “ and you will lose everything.”
The sounds of the floo network can be heard, voldemort looking up, when the aurors appeared as he vanishes. Emma’s vision suddenly begins to blur, her eyes falling closed, as she fell onto her brother unconscious.

“ he’s back,” said cornelius fudge in disbelief.

The prophet printed numerous papers the next day, various editions talking about current events, especially the appearance of he-who-must-not-be-named.
“ only the robin can make the final choice,” the words of the prophecy echoes in her mind.
“ what does that mean?” she wondered, “ what choice am i supposed to make?”
“ emma?” she looked over at ruth, “ what’s wrong?”
“ harry and voldemort are the only ones that can kill each other,” she whispered, “ but what do i have to do with this prophecy?”
Emma walked down the stairs, noticing harry as he had been talking to luna, the blonde girl walking past emma with a smile. Harry smiled when walking over to his sister, emma smiling at him, as they gave the other a hug.

“ how were you able to save sirius?” he asked.
“ i’m not sure,” emma sighed, “ i was so scared and then…”
Harry nodded his head to her, smiling in understanding, as he grabbed her hand. Their hands squeezed the others, emma smiling back at harry, as they walked out of the school.
“ i’ve been thinking about what dumbledore said to me,” he said when they had been behind hermione and ron.
“ what’s that?” asked hermione.
“ that even though we’ve got a fight ahead of us…” he explains, “ we’ve got one thing voldemort doesn’t have.”

“ yeah?” asked ron.
“ something worth fighting for,” harry said.
“ family,” emma adds with a smile, “ and friends.”
The train whistles as they get on board, emma smiling as she sat with hermione, ron and harry opposite of them as they depart.
