Fight or flight

Third POV:  quiet. Too quiet. even for a night. The world was held in slow motion; As though the world decided to stop time. Or end it.

clouds covered the blue sky and all its stars, joining in on the quiet with nothing to see but the winding street lights, and the gate of the institute, which for some odd reason was wide open….  Even before the girl with raven black hair walks through. It could have been anyone truly. There were a great number of people in the institute, it would be no surprise for someone to walk through only moments before herself. She didn’t come with any warning, just thought of surprising her family as soon as she could even though her schooling wasn’t done in Idris.  Salina Lovelace was going home tonight, after all they’ve been through she was worried about them and was dying to see them after so long being away. Especially Derek.

Salina walks through the dry grass, taking in the institute after a good 3 years away from it.

It felt smaller now. In a good way.

She was lucky her parents were able to sneak into idris at a point when they got back after five years being gone. They didn’t say anything about those years for some odd reason, only that they will discuss about it later on. Too long of a story Dad claimed. And he loved telling long stories from what she remembered of him. So it must be pretty dang long. She wanted to have a reason to forgive them, and whatever happened that kept them away so long was the only way she could.  She knew that the others were so young, and remembered how mad she was at 13 trying to take care of 4 kids when Maryse was not there. And for them to miss their parents all the time… she couldn’t replace them even as she tried.

an explanation was needed. But they were busy. And so was she. There will be time when time came for them.

On the last step, Salina walks in without the need of a knock or the words of the angel. For the main door was also wide open, letting in a cool breeze that felt unnatural for a summer night.

Her knee high boots echo in the Grand hall of the institute, her long body casting a dark shadow across the white marble floor that appeared grey in the dark.

It was odd, she thought, of how empty it felt. But she could feel something, a puls on her chest that told her she was most definitely not alone. It was her necklace. Her mother's ruby.

“That's not possible…”  she whispered the words under her breath over and over, hoping that maybe it was just broken. But magic never breaks. Its an energy, a matter that cannot be created nor destroyed.

Salina brings out her Seraph blade, calling to the name of the first shadowhunter that comes to mind…

Gabriel....

The seraph blade started to glow, giving off a blue hue around her. It was not nearly enough light though, to see what might be upon her…. What sort of creature that was in the institute. In a sacred place for shadowhunters… of those with angel blood.

Salina brings her sword to her side, moving forward as her mind starts to ponder on what could be there; she knew it couldn’t be a werewolf or vampire, since her necklace can only glow in the presence of demons. Pure demons.

It had to be something new, she thought. But she didn’t want to get into too many predictions when she hadn’t even started the experiment.

So she goes on down the grand hall, to the only other door that it could have gone through; for the door was once again, left open to the sanctuary.

I wasn’t a surprise it would go there… salina noticed- for of course if this ‘demon’ was walking hallowed grounds, the pain of the angel blood would be too great for it to bare. But how did it bare it for so long? Demons are never that dumb to get too close. They know they would die stepping anywhere near the institute. On her terms and the sake of wards.

But it did.

She takes a deep breath through her nose,  and walks in without hesitation, yet with caution.

Glad she was wearing shadowhunter gear. Glad that she had plenty of weapons at hand. For what stood in the distance was bigger than any demon she’s ever seen.

It was a tall, wide and unidentified figure with its back turned to her, surrounded by a black smoke that made it difficult to spot out if you weren’t looking as she was.

Salina took sofft steps forward, not towards the creature, but not away from it. Behind the statue in the middle part of the room in case the demon turned around at any point. She had no reckless interest in fighting or being spot at this moment. She just wanted to get this thing the hell out of here. But how?

The thing was huge. Too big to fight off.

She isn't one to run away. Never. But, for once, she just might have to do that. And let it chase her outside, away from the institute where, at least it's away from her family.

Salina takes a deep breath, and steps away from behind the statue, into the open.

“ hey! Demon bitch… come get me ass hole.” as she expected, the demon turns around. Its long teeth bared at her presence, moving forward with two human legs like no human would. And sprung for her, arms extended.

Salina barely turned around fast enough into a sprint she was sure wouldn't last long before he had her to the ground. To her death.
