It only took half an hour to get to the city. I pulled into a parking space and we made our way to the first of the shops.
"Can I not go into the game store while you go into the clothes shops? Pleasee?" Freddie gave us the puppy dog eyes.
I held my head high to him, "No, because I want to get a game too y'ano," I rolled my eyes at him and dragged him to the nearest clothes shop. "We won't be long,"
Emma nudged my arm, "I forgot to tell you, there's a gig tonight, and we're going, so you might need to buy an outfit," I rolled my eyes at her forget fullness. She always forgot the important stuff.
"Who's playing?"
She looked back at Freddie and nodded, "His band," she whispered, but he heard and lightly punched her in the arm.
"I told you not to tell her!!"
"Why not? I like seeing your band play!"
"No reason, honestly," he was still glaring at Emma, I tell you, if eyes could kill.
Emma threw her hands up in aggravation, "Come ON!" grabbing our hands she pulled us into the shop.
It took three hours to get through all of the shops before we managed to get home, throwing our bags onto the couch. We even managed to get Freddie to buy some clothes, which Emma was proud of because she chose them for him in return he got to spend half an hour in the game store.
I pulled out the denim shorts I had bought along with the band shirt and converse I would be wearing tonight, stealing one of Freddies new grey Apparel jacket he was wearing, out of bad habit.
I went down to the living room to find Emma and Freddie arguing in hushed whispers, halting as soon as they saw me standing in the doorway.
I looked at them both suspiciously, "Uhm, ready to go then?" I looked at Emma in her light ripped denim shorts and loose white vest with silver chains hanging from her neck. Freddie was in his usual dark torn skinny jeans and grey V neck top. They both looked at me awkwardly before grabbing their stuff and following me to Emma's black Beetle.
I leaned on the car, waiting for them to get going as they walked side by side, switching glances at each other every now and again, it looked as if Freddie was warning Emma about something. Ignoring their not so friendly banter I climbed into the back of the car, Emma driving and Freddie in the passenger seat.
"So are you going to tell me what's going on?" I questioned once we were on the road. They both looked back at me stunned before Freddie spoke.
"It's nothing," a hint of warning which was aimed at Emma to shut up. Sighing I slouched back in the seat, looking out the window. I would question Emma when Freddie wasn't around.
The gig was held in a building on an off road. Everyone in town knew where it was, but it still had that grunged down look to it, concert and play posters covered the walls of the hallway. The inside was dark and a few posters covered the brick walls. A bar took up one side of the wall with a couple of couches in the large room and a small hallway that lead to the back of the small stage, going through to what you would call the room opposite, but all that cut it off from the other room was railings and stairs to get down onto the lower platform.
I watched as Freddie made his way into the tiny hallway off back as soon as we entered the dingy place and Emma and I went straight to the bar, buying an over priced can of Red Bull before going off to find people that we know.
We ended up with a couple of friends that went to a different school than we did. We huddled around talking about nothing really until the first of the bands started playing, we all gathered around the small railings surrounding the stage. The bands each played five songs, six bands in total, Freddie being the third band to play.
I realized this mostly by the way Emma dragged me to the front, where we could get a good view of Freddie playing lead guitar, switching between vocals with the other guitarist who seemed to play the same rhythm on repeat. I watched in awe as all of his concentration was on the guitar under his hands, sliding from one position to the next, I didn't notice when the next song started, a cover of one of my favorite songs. I gazed up at him as the song started playing, taking the mic in his hands.
"And I know something you don't,
It comes and goes
like the strength in your bones, woah
To keep your mind at rest
I'll never let the two of us be friends,
Does that hurt?
Underdog,
just look at the mess you made
It's such a shame, a shame,
we had to find out this way
You must have,
the must have moment in your hands
And it's sad to think that,
I'm a season, I'm going to change,
Just not face to face,
It ain't broke, so don't fix it,
Underdog,
just look at the mess you made
It's such a shame, a shame,
We had to find out this way,
Revenge loves company,
three makes it a crowd
So wash your mouth,
and sit this one out,"The sudden realisation of Emma standing there tapping wildly at my shoulder whilst jumping up and down brought me back to reality. The crowd started to dissipate as the band went of stage, Emma grabbed my arm and dragged me to the small hallway awaiting Freddie to come out. Smiling as he handed me his plick like he always used to, I was wrapped up in his arms tightly, my arms slipping comfortably around his neck, "That was great Freddie, really," I whispered loudly in his ear so he could hear me above the noise.
"Thanks Kimmy bear, did you like the song I played specially for you?" he pulled me back so he could look me in the eye and not talk to my neck.
"OhmiGod, it was the best!" I wrapped my arms around him tighter, "I'm glad you like it."
"Ew, guys, can you stop getting all lovey dovey and move? We're all going to the shop for cheaper drinks." we both glared at Emma for a moment before shrugging and going moving towards the door.
