Alexandru lifted the boy up and carried him inside. For a second I thought that Alexandru would resent the werewolf boy for being what he was, assuming that vampires and werewolves hated each other. The boy did rip off the head of the vampire that attacked me.
Upon seeing that man's headless body at the bottom of his steps, Alexandru simply drew a match and lit the dead vampire on fire. His body burned quickly and turned the gravel black.
Alexandru dressed the dark-skinned boy in dark blue, satin pajamas and had laid him in the guest room beside mine. He had done all this as I just stood in the hallway. After a while, I then entered and saw the young boy still sleeping. Alexandru and I didn't exchange any words as we made our way out of the room and down the hall.
I followed him to the kitchen and decided to break the silence between us.
"Is he a ... Werewolf?" I asked.
"Yes," Alexandru bluntly answered as he rolled up his sleeves and tied a small apron around his waist.
"I don't know where he came from," I began, "but he saved me from a vampire,"
Alexandru turned on one of the burners to the stove and grabbed out a pan.
"Alexandru, I have a feeling I don't need to tell you any of this,"
"Tavian is leaving as soon as he wakes up."
"What?"
"His stupidity has put you in danger and I will chastise him for it. Tonight he has brought that vampire upon the castle and God knows who else he has attracted here. When I found him hurt a while ago, I told him it would be best to leave after sleeping. Now I know I was correct in my assumptions."
"So, that man—that vampire—was someone from the American Vampire group that has been trying to recruit Octavian?" Alexandru nodded as he fixed up a meal. "What about the werewolf?"
"I don't know who he is or where he came from, but he is not a natural werewolf that has made a deal with the devil, he is a turned werewolf, and tonight was his first night transforming." That caught my attention.
The black kid upstairs in the guest room is so young. He might just be around my age. He looked so scared when he was turning back into a human. But he looked so angry and scary when he was a demon.
"Is tonight a full moon?"
"No, and to answer your next question, he was bitten only a few hours ago. Once you are bitten you immediately turn into a werewolf. But then it soon goes away after a few hours and you only turn back into a beast when the moon is full. So for about three days, they are a werewolf. This young man must have been wandering around the woods when he heard you scream and came to your rescue,"
I could have sworn I heard regret and sarcasm in Alexandru's voice like he wished he had been the one to rescue me.
"You don't seem to hate him,"
"You are referring to the stereotype that vampires and werewolves are enemies. I'm sorry to inform you but I think we get along just as much as we hate each other in books. We don't care about each other, it's the hunters that we hate." I nodded my head and wondered what it would have been like in all of those vampire and werewolf books if they had gotten along in harmony.
I wanted to ask but I assumed Alexandru was fixing the young boy some food. I wanted something to eat as well but felt my appetite disappear as I thought about what happened an hour ago.
"Can I go see him?" I asked. Alexandru gave me the OK and so I slipped off the stool I was sitting on and went upstairs.
I clicked the door open to the guest bedroom and slipped inside.
