"You should be getting to bed," Octavian said after I yawned. He was right. Right about now was the time I got ready for bed.

I nodded reluctantly to the vampire's suggestion and slipped off of the stool I was sitting on. I wished Octavian a good day then headed to my room. I checked on Alexandru to see if he'd shifted but looking at him in the same position as two hours ago made me remember that a vampire is practically paralyzed when sleeping.

I came up to him and ran my hand through his hair once more, then I went to my room.

I immediately wrote down all that happened in my journal. My parents' funeral and burial, going to the beach, the gypsies and the memory I saw of Alexandru, running my hands through his hair, and Octavian's physiology lesson on vampires. I wrote it all down. My eyes began to get heavy so before crawling into bed, I got dressed and drew the curtains closed at my window to block out the sunlight, and climbed into the queen-sized bed and fell asleep.
By the time I woke back up, it was dark. I sat up and the dim glow in my room went unnoticed. I rubbed at my eyes and ran my hands through my thick brown hair. I then paused and noticed the lit candle on my nightstand.

Alexandru. He must have come and checked on me. Why do I not see anything wrong with that?

I climbed out of bed and walked over to the window. I put my hand up to the glass as I stared out at the silver forest. My heart leaped when a flock of bats came into view. Could it be Alexandru?

I quickly got dressed into a pair of jeans and sweatshirt. I pulled on some sneakers then ran out of the room. I didn't know where I was planning on going. Outside? But why? To see the vampire I've been thinking about? No, the man that's been watching over me.

My feet were fairly silent for the most part while making my way down the grand staircase. I ran up to the large doors to the castle and swung one of them open. I walked out onto the front steps and couldn't find the bats flying anymore.

I stepped down a few of the steps and squatted down. I pulled my knees together and put my arms around them. I kept my head back looking up at the beautiful sky. Not being in a city and not having any lights coming out of the castle allowed me to see the night sky in its true form. Stars twinkled and came and went. I could see the glowing red lights on a plane flying overhead.

Suddenly, I heard something coming in the direction of the trees. My entire body froze when I noticed the glowing purple eyes in the distance. I couldn't move. It felt like my heart stopped and my whole body went numb. Next thing I knew, there was a mysterious vampire in front of me. He was dressed in a heavy trench coat and a modern suit. His ears were pointy and his dark hair was slicked back. He wasn't as tall as Alexandru, but he had broader shoulders. His eyes were piercing and his wicked smile revealed his pearly white fangs. He had frozen time to get close to me. He bent his knees and leveled his face with mine.

"Hello," he began with an American accent. I knew that vampires couldn't compel people not to move, by they don't need to have that capability, for their eyes do it for them. "I'm looking for a man, better yet, a vampire." I felt all blood flood from my face. Why now do I feel this way around a vampire? Terrified.

The man gave me a bored look and seemed to lose interest in me. "I forgot, you're Romanian, you probably don't understand a word I'm saying." I went to speak up but the man looked at his hand and I swallowed hard at his sharp nails. "I haven't killed anyone in a while." He whipped his head in my direction with a devilish look on his face. His fangs seemed to grow and his eyes gleamed yellow.

Where is Alexandru?!

"Stop!" I said with my arm covering my face. The vampire grabbed my arm and forced me to look at him.

"Maybe I can have some fun with you first,"

"No! Stop!" I tried to force my hand from his grip but I knew it was in vain. Later I would hate myself for not trying to converse with the vampire and let him know we were from the same country.

I screamed out Alexandra's name when the vampire grabbed the wrist of my other arm and pulled me up close to him. Then a large figure crossed my vision, ripping the vampire out of my view. I immediately followed the figure and almost swallowed my tongue.

The beast before me was ginormous and furry. He tore at the vampire's limbs then decapitated him. The creature stood up and I was more terrified of him than I was of the man before him.

He was probably ten feet tall with enormous muscles all over. His ears were like a mule's and his snout was abnormally long. Tusks of hair stuck out all over his body. Sharp, shiny teeth lined his snarling mouth and dagger-like claws hung from his large hands. Werewolf.

I was horrified. Unlike a vampire, this creature's ugliness was on the outside.

I found myself scrabbling backward up steps as the werewolf began to move closer at a rapid speed. But he soon fell onto his knees as my back hit the doors to the castle. The werewolf seemed to be struggling and getting smaller. His muscles began to deflate and his hair began receding. His dark color, however, stayed with him as he fell to his stomach and allowed his arms to go limp. His ears drew to the side of his face and his snout began squishing into his face and revealing a wide, thick human nose. I witnessed the creature that had saved me, transform into a young, black boy.

He seemed to be unconscious as I gained the courage to poke him. I did and he didn't stir. I ignored the fact that he was stark naked and pulled him up onto my lap. The doors to the castle swung open and Alexandru was at my side in a second.

"Maggy, what happened?" Alexandru looked like he was really worried. I wanted to answer him but he looked down at the young boy in my arms.
