Lukas left us in the ballroom once finding out where he was. We found out that he was German and wandered over the border through the woods. Alexandru said that he would take him into town for a new wardrobe and Lukas seemed taken back by it as if no one had ever offered such a thing to him. I wanted to get to know Lukas more but he said that he was tired, and Alexandru said that that was common with the first few transformations. So Lukas went off to bed and Alexandru and I went back to piano lessons.
It had been three weeks and Lukas was still shutting himself up in his room. He wasn't the social type it seemed. Alexandru said that it was just a stage of post-depression Lukas was going through after becoming a werewolf. That was another thing, I was curious about how Lukas had become a werewolf. Who bit him? Did he allow it?
Alexandru took me to England to see the London Philharmonic Orchestra in the month of August. I was a bit nervous to leave Lukas alone because he had only been around for four weeks but he said that he was fine. The night we were to be gone was to be the time Lukas turned into a werewolf. I was sad to leave him alone to deal with that but Alexandru said that he would have the gypsies check up on him. I worried for them as well in case Lukas attacked them, but the count reassured me that they could handle themselves against a werewolf youngling.
I had bought a travel bag in town when shopping for Lukas and sat in my room packing clothes in it. Alexandru wanted to stay for two nights in London and I didn't have a problem with that. I liked London.
I packed a dress and two pairs of jeans. I then put in a pairs of shorts and several shirts. Pajamas, utilities, and two pair of shoes: flats for the concert and sneakers to walk around in.
We traveled by plane and settled in a two bedroom apartment. I had worn sweats on the plane and Alexandru wore his regular fancy clothes. But once we got to the hotel, I changed into a pair of my jeans and almost died from overheating in my face when the vampire I was staying with came out of his room in a pair of jeans and a thin green V-neck and yellow jacket. His hair wasn't slicked back and he allowed his ankles to show and comfy looking walking shoes to be in the place of his regular black ones.
"Maggy, are you okay?" He had asked me. I nodded quickly and just walked out the door. He shut the door behind him as I noticed he had grabbed a cap and sunglasses to cover his face.
Throughout the day we hung out and toured famous sights. I found out that Alexandru served in both world wars and was awarded a medal for being a spy in the German army because he was Romanian. He served both wars in the British army and served many other wars in other countries across the world.
I had never been on a Ferris wheel so I asked if we could go on the famous London Eye. It had gotten dark and I wanted to see London lit up.
We sat opposite each other in the cart.
"Thank you, Alexandru," I said.
"You're welcome, Maggy," he smiled back.
We are such an odd pair. Walking into stores and around the city, I received dirty looks from other girls. I know that I'm not the prettiest but I don't like feeling ugly while walking with such a gorgeous man like the count. One lady mistook us for being brother and sister and that kind of got me riled up. I began realizing that I didn't want to be Alexandru's sister. I wanted to be ... more.
The next day we went to the London Museum then got ready for the concert. My dress was red and short at the knees. I had a beautiful overcoat that Alexandru had bought me while shopping the day before. Alexandru wore a black tuxedo that made him look like James Bond.
We sat in an upper private box at the concert. It was one of the best seats in the house. I wondered how much Alexandru paid for it and even went to the extent of confessing that I would have been okay with a bottom floor seat. His excuse was that if he was going to enjoy something he would do it in style.
We enjoyed ourselves as we sat in the seats side-by-side listening to the beautiful sound coming from below us. Alexandru had his hand on the arm rest and I did too. I kept shifting in my seat and tried to stop. The next thing I knew, my hand flopped into the vampire's. I left it there, however, because his hand was cold and the rest of my body was warm from the heat of the room. I felt a squeeze of my hand and allowed it to stay that way. Throughout the rest of the performance, we held hands. For a moment, I felt myself developing feelings for the Count. Even though he was logically ten years older than me, for the time my hand was in his, I didn't care about the age difference.
I allowed my head to lay itself on the count's shoulder. He didn't protest, which told me he didn't care. The orchestra, it felt like, played a romantic piece. It was beautiful, and was perfect for the way I was feeling at the moment.
I had fallen asleep, and was awoken by Alexandru lightly tapping my knee. I looked over the ledge and found that most of the theater had exited the hall. Alexandru led me outside to a taxi. We climbed in and I found myself drifting off on Alexandru's shoulder. We got to the hotel and he once more nudged me awake. I was able to get out of the car but fell into the vampire's arms. I was incredibly tired and I couldn't figure out why.
Alexandru resorted in carrying me in. I wrapped my hands unconsciously around his neck and allowed my head to lean against his chest.
We made it to the hotel room and Alexandru laid me down on my bed.
I was half asleep but still felt the kiss Alexandru left on the top of my head before exiting to the opposite room.
The next morning, we left back to Romania.
