"You'll be fine" I kept telling myself in the mirror. The shock of having no one hasn't fully sunk in yet, even though it's been months. My mom wasn't the best mom but she was still my mom. Even if she wasn't really listening to my problems I could still pretend she was, now she's just gone. Just like everyone else.

I continue packing my room up while playing my special playlist, I used to listen to it when I was focused on something or just needed a distraction. I laugh at how 'stressed' used to be whether or not my crush liked me, now stressed means trying to figure out how to pay for college and the fact that I want to give my mom a funeral but don't have enough money for it.

I tape up my box and decide I want a break, graduation was last week so at least I won't have to pretend I'm okay anymore.

I quickly type back "Yeah you're always welcome, just as long as you help me pack these boxes lol

I quickly type back "Yeah you're always welcome, just as long as you help me pack these boxes lol."

Jace was the only person who really always knew how I felt. We had been friends for nearly our whole life, we met when we were five and have been practically inseparable since. Jace was the only person who has stuck by my side throughout everything that I have been through and he is basically the only family left for me.

The chime of my doorbell startles me, I forgot Jace was coming. Whoops. As I run down the steps to greet my best friend, I realize how much of a mess my house is. I've been busy auctioning things off at home to clean or anything, I then realized that I hadn't even listed the house for sale yet. "Crap." I murmur under my breath.

I open the door and immediately feel the dry hot air hit my face.

"Kyra, you look disgusting." Jace says with an odd face, a mixture of disgust and understanding.
