Chapter 23

Piper

"I think we overreacted." Jason says.

Percy glares at him.

"It's my fault, I was the one who was yelling at him the most. I was the one scaring him." I say, emptily.

"How do things escalate so quickly? Leo changed within a matter of hours. Everything about him changed when he got sick. That was literally two days ago. His whole demeanor changed. Everything about him." Jason puts his head in his hands.

"Maybe Aspen triggered this. Plus, he freaking killed children. When the hell did Leo become the cold one?" Percy says.

We shake our heads. And then Leo walks in.

"Leo, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. So sorry. Please forgive me." I beg and go over to him.

He just looks at me blank of emotion.

"Leo? I said I'm sorry. I didn't even know you had panic attacks. You should have told me. I didn't know. I'm sorry. I would never have done that. I was just hurt you didn't tell me. I was angry. I'm not mad you're gay, I'm fine with that." The words are continuous, in a flow.

He states at the ground.

"Answer me, damnit!" I yell, shaking him.

He doesn't say anything.

And I cry. He's so frustrating.

"You could have told me! I would have helped you. We could have handled everything differently."

He looks up at me.

He shakes his head no.

I'm confused. No what?

"What?"

"I said no." He whispers, shrinking down.

I step back.

"I'm glad I didn't tell you. Honestly, you should have known. You're a freaking daughter of Aphrodite. So if you don't mind, I'm going to go and hang out with my actual friend. The friend that notices when I'm sad and suicidal. The friend that doesn't have to be told when I'm sad. So if you could please, fuck off, and leave me alone for a while, that'd be great. This will be really awkward later, but fuck it. Fuck you, Piper. And especially you Jason. You were supposed to be my best friend. But, I guess I wasn't as important to you as PIPER, over here." He jerks his head towards me.

And then he walks out.

"Well, that went well."
