Elena sat there , shocked for a moment. Questions running through her mind at superspeed , how is he even alive? Where was he this whole time ?
Does he know about her?
But , the last question was something whose answer should be obvious. Of course he doesn't know! How would he, when she was born after he supposedly 'died'.
Turning to Coulson, she only had to look at him in a questioning glance for him to know what she was asking.
"No. He does not know. "
Letting out a sigh of relief, she slumped down on her chair as she let the thoughts run through her mind.
"Why now?" Was the only question she could form in words.
"Because we need him , and you for the matter. It's Level seven."
Immediately, she sprung up. Level seven, that meant war. What did SHIELD do this time as to declare Level Seven?
"Details ?"
"A guy from outer space. Took the tesseract, along with many of ours. Including Clint. "
Elena didn't think her eyes could widen more than they already were. Clinton Barton was one of the agency's finest. How was he so easily compromised? That too from one of the most secure bases of SHIELD?
"H-How?"
"Some weird scepter of his. Turned Barton, Erik Selfig, into his personal monkeys. Stark's daughter included."
His eyes softened when he spoke of the said young girl. No matter how much he denied it, Coulson had developed a soft spot for the young girl."Wait, Sofie's also gone? How's Tony doing?"
"He is . . . how you can expect him to be. Working endlessly, pestering us about the Intel, and not letting us do our jobs. The funny thing is, he would take the Intel, but won't let us help either, by putting a virus in our systems as soon as he get the Intel. "
"He doesn't want our help. But you can't blame the guy for trying, I mean his daughter has been kidnapped, that too by some alien."
He nodded, as they got up from their seats, noticing that they were nearing base.
As soon as they touched down, Elena got down on the platform but Coulson stayed. She turned back at him, raising an eyebrow in question.
"Have to collect your father. Supposed you wouldn't be too thrilled about it. You get the big guy. "
"You know getting Tony in this is risky? He is already distraught over his daughter." She pointed out.
"That's why I'm sending you , and not Natasha or Coulson ." Came a voice from behind Elena.
"Fury." She gave a sharp nod in acknowledgement.
"Agent Carter. Now I think you all have orders , now go follow them.
With that everything was set in motion.
*******Two hours later, Elena was entering the newly built Stark tower. She was friends with the younger stark, but she knew that with the kidnapping of his daughter Tony Stark would be on edge.
And an edgy Stark is a dangerous, reckless Stark.
As soon as I entered the compound of Tony's tower, the shield agents team I had brought with me were overriding the protocols of JARVIS, enabling me to enter the elevator easily. Taking out my phone I filled Tony's number.
"Tony, we need to talk."
His eyes had dark bags underneath them, as he sarcastically said, " You have reached the life model decoy of Tony Stark, please leave a message."
"This is urgent." I sighed.
"Then leave it urgently." He snapped, just as I reached my floor. Showing him my phone I entered.
"Security breach." He said, throwing his hands in the air, defeated.
*Why don't you want our help in searching your daughter, Stark? " I asked, frustrated, as I accepted the glass of water from Pepper's hand. Giving her a tired smile in return I turned back to Tony.
"Because you were ones to loose her in the first place! Look, after what happened , I don't trust you guys , at all. My daughter was kidnapped under your watch, and now I gotta find her before something happens. "
"You weren't the only one who lost someone close to you Tony, so suck it up, and let us help!"
" Is this about the Avengers ?" Pepper asked, and as I raised an eyebrow in surprise , she quickly corrected her mistake, " Which I know nothing about."
"Sure Pepper, whatever you say ." I muttered , already annoyed with the world.
Why did Fury have to send me of all the people?!?
"I thought the Avengers initiative was scraped. And I didn't even qualify. Apparently I'm volatile, self obsessed, don't play well with others."
"That I do know." Pepper said shaking her head in understanding.
"This isn't about personality profile anymore, Tony, and you know that." I snapped, having enough on my plate already - with Steve out of the ice and all - without him adding on to it.
"Miss Potts, over here." He asked for Pepper, as I stood behind.
Soon I was on a jet back to HQ, Pepper safely tucked away on another plane to a safe place, while Tony was somewhere other than where I was.
I was beyond tired , but I had a job to do. And I would try to do it as professionally as I could.
Let's hope Steve Rogers doesn't get to know about my existence any sooner than he is supposed to know, which is never.
