He thought it would be dark. Dark and cold. But, it was so bright. And warm. It was so warm.

He touched his neck, remembering the crushing sensation. Remembering the feeling of the air leaving his lungs, the snapping of his neck.

There were lakes and rivers and groves of trees lining the horizon. Footsteps sounded from behind him. Turning he could see the beautiful steps leading up to an elegant palace.

When the door was flung open, he could see her.

Her.

His love.

His Katia.

Her long red hair flew behind her as she ran to him.

Tears ran down his cheeks and he did nothing to stop them.

He caught her in his arms. Their lips met and for the first time in years they held each other close. He heard her laugh, the very sound he craved.

"Babe, you've been an idiot."

"I'm sorry, what."

"You let your anger get to you. Look at how well that turned out. You let our daughter grow up without a father."

"I'm sorry."

"I don't blame you. I should have seen it coming. I should have hidden better. I should have been there for her too."

"We can't change it now, at least I have you now. At least we're together."

"Oh, I missed you."

"There was never a day that I haven't thought of you." He held her tight to his chest, not wanting to let go of her.

"I love you."

"I love you more."
