Movement was static, meaningless. All was still, except the shadows, which pulsed with energy. Yuri pounced. In but a moment, she was on him. One of her pale hands, her pretty, soft nails, pushed against Alex's shoulders, unnaturally firm and still. Her left arm hung against her side, not inactive, but hesitant. Thunder streaked across the sky in blinding flashes, briefly stopping and starting time in an inconsistent strobe. The lightning had a violet penumbra of sorts, casting a red hue into the flooding rains. The sky roaring, water crashed against the windows in waves, a virulent sea, spotted with thick, blue bullets.
Alex's back hit the floor and he felt the coolness of the draft rise up from under him. The storm's cold gripped him. Thunder flashed. Time seemed to roll over. Yuri clutched the tissues of his throat, her fingers quivering with a sick sense of affection, caressed his trembling tendons.
"You do love me, don't you? It feels like you do... Why else would you be shaking?". Drawing her head close, Yuri's hair curtained off Alex's field of vision, thin moonlight glowed through her magenta hair, and yet as her face bore down on him, it was calm, not violent or crazed. Peaceful and beautiful, a corrupt anchor in a purple storm.
That was the moment her nails poked past his first layer of skin, her clutch now a grasp she tossed her hair back, parting the veil, and tugged, drawing lines of red, and a steady drip of blood to the surface of Alex's neck. It bled in drops, swelling to beads before running over, spilling together to form a singular, coursing line of crimson.
As Alex's head slammed down against the hardwood of the floor the draft swept through his hair and over his eyes. Forcing a blink and chilling his scalp. As if to block the light Yuri craned her head down, lips hovering above his. In an instant, she nipped his cheek, pulling his skin between her smooth teeth. Lips smearing against his face, her mannerisms stuttered, she locked lips with him, then as fast as she had engaged, retreated.
Blood now dripping across his neck and face, Alex felt the numbness depart as adrenaline began to lick the insides of his veins. The next moment was nothing. If remembered, a broken memory, comprised of purple hair and an ocean for a storm. The thunderous roar of lightning and the concussive smashing of water against glass. Whether she fell towards him or she was forced from his form Alex couldn't tell, all he knew was that he had passed her. Fingers scrabbling to clutch the door frame, his knee dropped and cracked. Painstakingly slow Alex rounded the corner before escaping out onto the hallway.
The echo of rain was louder somehow, outside of the room. The hallway and glass provided no insulation from the assault of the gale. Thunderous through the paper walls. The reflection of falling water rippled, turbulent shadows painted the length of the hallway. Alex's panic was cold. And thoughtless. Alex limped soundlessly, rushing to the stairs. One foot first, then the other, then the first foot, the second. Alex fell, down. His body scraped the wall, falling to the ground soundlessly. Flesh on carpet, clambering upon itself for vision.
Brilliant lightning struck the windows, carving a line through the walls Alex had passed upstairs. Cutting deep with a knife into the plaster in the same maddening pattern, hitching only briefly across the walls wooden bonds before embedding in the walls soft tissue once more. Madness was enshrined in purple hair. Alex stumbled back and stopped. There was nowhere he could go. Nowhere to hide at all. Pure panic. Fear and pain. But most of all, the inevitability of it all. Absolute desperation. Panic. True panic.
And then she was there, she didn't jump out, she didn't lumber, nor stalk. She walked. It was just Yuri, one foot after the other, first then second. But she never fell. She had reached the bottom. She didn't peak, she didn't cry, or scream, wail or collapse. She didn't even apologize, blush and tuck her face away. She was so calm. So calm. Her face obscured by shadow in parts. Expressionless for what it was.
"Why?"
No answer.
"Why would you?"
No response.
To his knees, Alex fell. His face broke like glass into a moan. And then both Yuri and Alex wept. Tears pulsing quickly from their eyes flowing over their own unchanging expressions like rain.
Streaks upon the face of each other soon became droplets and then ran dry. The storm did not relent.
Yuri pulled herself closer. Bending her hips before bringing herself down to Alex's eye line. Mimicking him. She waited, as did Alex. They stared into the other, it was like looking into a mirror. Each thinking of nothing, static. Then thinking about how they were thinking of nothing. And then how they were thinking the same. The sky kept pounding against the house.
And it was very loud.
And then quiet.
Ah-
Is something wrong?
It's hot...I just didn't expect it.
Sorry...
I didn't want to use cold water.
Wait-
Eh?
Just... for a little longer.
It feels really nice...
Ah...
"Ah..."
Yuri's gentle fingers wrapped subtly around my arm send a shiver through my body. And, I could almost swear that her face was closer to mine than it was a second ago.
But, that sweet, flowery scent of Jasmine oil is gone. Then so is the sun, my room and the silence. Yuri's still here. Good. Looking at me. It's an intense expression I recognize from when she reads her books... Almost as if she's lost in a daze, enveloped by her own thoughts. She breathes gently, through slightly parted lips.
The knife is strangely beautiful.
The silver handle has a gentle pattern of waves etched into it.
The blade itself is gently tinted blue.
I didn't expect it to be that sharp.
It can cut through skin like it's paper.
The towel I was holding. Warmth was a distant memory. It was cold. It feels heavy and extremely solid.
And I was holding it to her neck.
It can cut through skin like it's paper.
And it did. Like ribbon.
