i went back over to his house after school and ian told me that he was in the van in the backyard so i went over there and saw him smoking a cigarette and it looked like he had been crying.
"hey." i said.
"hey." lip replied in a small tone.
"are you okay?" i asked him.
"yeah." he replied but i knew it was a lie.
"you weren't at school today." i said.
"uh, no, i didn't make it." lip replied.
"karen?" i asked.
"she's in pretty bad shape." lip told me as i let out a sigh.
"are you going over there later tonight?" i asked him.
"uh... i don't know. not really sure." lip replied.
"i can come over tonight. you know, if you want me too. i just missed you last night." i told him.
"sure. yes. please." lip replied as i went over and kissed him.
"i'll be back later." i told him as he nodded before i started to walk away from the van.
"mel?" lip said making me turn around.
"do you think you could stay here with me? just for awhile?" lip asked me as i went and sat next to him.
"of course." i replied as i saw lips tears fall down his face and i let him rest his head on my shoulder while i ran my fingers through his hair.
"the last time i talked to karen, i wasn't really nice to her. i just don't want that to be the last she heard from me." lip explained.
i finally understood why he was going to see her, it was because he regretted his last words to her.
that night lip and i both went to bed and i turned over to look at him.
"you know what happened to karen was my fault right?" i told him.
"what are you talking about?" lip asked me.
"well, if it wasn't for me calling mandy she would've never been hit by that car." i said as a tear fell down my face.
"don't say that, okay? just get some sleep." lip said as he kissed my forehead and we both eventually fell asleep.
