"what does it take to get a refill around here?" frank asked.
"that's what i'm sayin." cheryl said.
"jacket and tie would probably help." lip told frank.
"yeah, he's right." i said.
"this is nice. we don't spend enough time together." frank told lip.
"yeah, neither do we." cheryl said looking over at me.
"no, we don't spend any time together." lip told frank.
"wow, took the words right out of my mouth." i said smiling at lip.
"exactly our point. you know, kids, you can always come to us." frank said.
"yes, anytime." cheryl said.
"thanks, dad." lip said.
"yeah, thanks mom." i said taking a sip of my bourbon.
"cheryl and i, we worry about the two of you." frank said.
"that right?" lip asked amused.
"yes, all the time." cheryl said.
"is that so?" i asked.
"parents plight. never goes away. no matter how old your kids get. look at you two. both 18 now. high school graduates." frank said.
"where the fuck is that waiter?" cheryl asked.
"don't go getting misty eyed on us now." lip told my mother.
"well, you guys need any words of motherly or fatherly advice?" cheryl asked.
"no, i think we got it covered." i told my mom.
"come on, come on, what's on your minds?" frank asked us.
"okay? why not? day couldn't get any weirder. um... i'm done with school. i have no idea what i'm gonna do today or tomorrow or for the rest of my life." lip said.
"okay, what about you?" cheryl asked me.
"i've got options but uh, i basically i'm just not sure." i replied.
