I slip on my vans and stumble down the stairs to quickly open the front door. Standing in front of me was Jake in a loose button up and jeans, with flowers in his hand. I back up a little surprised at the fact that he brought me flowers. "You didn't have to do that" I mumble, kindly grabbing the flowers from his hands before walking to the kitchen. "It is only our first date..".
He follows me in the house standing by the front door. "I know, but I wanted to make a special girl feel special" he expressed, cheeks heating up. I turn to look at him pacing by the front door. I chuckle to myself and place the flowers in the vase, before walking out the door with him.
He opens the car door for me, and closes it once I'm inside. What a gentlemen, he brings me flowers, compliments me, and opens doors for me, it cant get any better than this. He drives not far, pulling into a movie theatre. My excitement began to fade as I saw the bright letters "CINEMA" flashing above me. He looks my way, concern filling his eyes. "Something wrong?" mumbled Jake, hands in his pocket.
"Oh not at all" I fake smiled, walking along side of him. I hated the movies, especially for dates. All you do is sit and watch something that one person doesn't want to watch. You don't get to spend any time talking to each other, and the movie and food is overpriced. It's a complete waste of time if you ask me. We grab our tickets and food, sitting down near the back of the theatre.
The movie starts and I'm already having a shitty time. I try to hide it as best as I can, for Jake keeps giving me side glances. I stuff my face with the disgusting popcorn and try to look interested at the movie playing. As the movie reaches it halfway mark, Jake slowly inches his hand towards mine intertwining our hands together. I smile, it's comforting but not making my heart flutter in my chest.
The movie finishes and he drives me back home. It's past midnight as he pulls into my driveway, putting the car in park and walking me to my front door. " I had a good time" he smiles, taking my hands in his. I smile back agreeing with him, taking the keys out of my pocket to unlock the front door. He stops me and grabs my face forcefully, pressing his lips against mine. I stand with shock, eyes open, not knowing how to handle the situation. He soon stops after realizing that I wasn't kissing him back. He drops his hands from my face, "Why aren't you kissing me back? Did I do something?" he asks, his voice trembling.
Taking this as an opportunity to actually unlock my front door, I open it wide, stepping in, leaving him outside. I look at his face, the feeling of hurt spread straight across it, clear as day. I feel sad in my heart for him, but that was something else, something that wasn't right. "No, I just think we need to take this a bit slow. I did just meet you and our date went well, but I never gave you permission to kiss me. Instead you took it upon yourself to do so, which made me extremely uncomfortable" I rush out, sympathy in my voice.
"Oh" he whispers, looking at his hands. "You didn't say this the first time we kissed... I thought you wanted to be more than friends, so I took it upon myself to make it clear to you. Don't get me wrong, I know we just met and all, but I feel like I've known you for years already. Blair... you mean the absolute world to me."
I stand in shock at the words coming out of his mouth. Jake is making it sound like we have been dating for decades and he's finally ready to spend the rest of his life with me. We have only known each other for barely a week, and he's confessing how he feels about me as a lover. Overwhelmed by the sudden burst of honesty from him, I quickly say a goodbye and shut the door.
I hate tonight.
