Aberdeen, Washington 1987
September 16th
Meadow walked into the small yet big cafe that was Bloom, she felt a sense of belonging, but also the smell of rude customers and low paychecks. Meadow knew this was one of her last chances at getting a job, although she was only 19, she knew she wasn't wanting to get a job any farther from her house, so to her this was it."You here for something?" She looked up and focused on the tall muscular man she was making direct eye contact with. "Yeah, hi." She said nervously, "I'm here for the job interview." "Is that right?" He replied laughing. "Yes sir" Meadow uttered out.
The man then began laughing, you could even say he was roaring at that point. Meadow looked at him puzzled as to why the man that was so stern a minute ago was now so soft.
"Sweetheart, you should've seen your face." The man said after calming down his laughter. "My name is Tim, I'm the owner here. I'll also be the one conducting your job interview Meadow."
She couldn't figure out whether to let out a laugh along with him, or simply just run out of there and never look back. She chose laughter."You got me there!" Meadow said laughing loudly. "Hi Tim, wait I feel that's disrespectful. What's your last name? If you don't mind me asking."
"Beckett. My last name is Beckett, but don't call me "Mr. Beckett" it makes me feel old. I'm only twenty five." Tim even put quotes around Mr. Beckett. He seems funny Meadow thought, but she can't be so sure yet.

"So it says here that your nineteen years of age, is that correct?" Tim said as he scanned Meadow's year old resumé. "Yeah, that's correct."
"And also a leap year baby? Wow, you must have some luck on you then." Tim then let out his thunderous laugh yet again and continued on skimming through the resumé.
"This would be your first real job then?""No, I worked at this huge mall about a year ago, but then I quit." Meadow knew she got fired, not only did it make her sound better if she said she quit, but it also made her feel better about herself.
Tim somehow noticed the pause in her voice before she muttered quit. "You quit, why?" The way he said "why" was so intimidating to her, she knew that he knew she was lying.
Meadow waited to reply knowing if she gave the answer too fast he'd know for sure he caught her, but if she waited just a little bit, she'd be fine.
"I wasn't really feeling the job anymore, plus the pay wasn't all that great either."
"Right right, I see. Is that why it says here you were fired from your last job for "dragging a customer by the hair and then throwing some of her hair onto an escalator?"
Meadow immediately felt herself get hot, she felt her beaded sweat trickle down her face slowly. The feeling of tension was quickly subdued by Tim bursting into laughter.
"You know anything about coffee and croissants?"
Tim asked still laughing. Meadow quickly replied, "Yes, I've been eating croissants since I was about nine, I'm absolutely in.."
Meadow was instantly cut off by Tim.
"No Meadow, do you know how to make them?" Meadow looked down knowing if she said no, she might not get the job.
"I don't, but I can learn. I'm really eager to get this job, can't you just put me in training or something?"
Tim sat for about five minutes observing her before the words left his lips, "You got the job kiddo."
