Another reason I love this anime... It tackles deep issues. Such as.. Attempted rape.
Due to her fear of men (because of what I mentioned above) she isn't able to get closer to him (physically or emotionally) but you can see her grow out of her fear throughout the series and they get closer eventually. Although they aren't a couple at the end of the series, they mention at they end that they have been "getting closer" and I remember reading somewhere that they do end up getting together at some point later on.
I must say... I enjoy this couple more than Taichi and Inaba. That's saying something 😂 They have the sweetest moments. He is very clearly in love with her. He straight out says this several times and she knows it as well.
