this is a piece of english descriptive writing that we had to do in class, basing it off a picture of our choosing. i'm still not sure why but i thought of the spring day music video, annnnd there began my path to becoming an ARMY :')

i got a GCSE grade 9 for this, so i'm very proud. i edited it a bit but i'll include the fun facts about the writing that i sent to my teacher as well.

also, listen to the song :) please stream spring day on youtube for clear skin. #timelessspringday

The tree grew long, wiry thorns that pierced into the sky. Alone there on the lower branch, hung a dangling pair of shoes. I imagined the stories they held of the owner; in between the weave of stitches and cloth told the treks he'd taken, the miles he'd paved, and the rivers he'd crossed. I wondered why he had chosen these particular shoes; I pondered about the thoughts that had gone through his mind.

What had compelled him to step to the edge of death, to stare at its calm surface and dive in, head to heels? Did the hands of the Reaper welcome him invitingly? Had he changed his mind last minute and failed to grasp at his remaining breath? In any case, at a certain point, as he wandered out among the galaxies, among the whirling particles and ineffable numbers, something must've made him stumble and trip, smudging the text of the cosmos, and he was lost.

Eventually, I imagined his loved ones found him again, walking as he'd had, clutching these pair of shoes, and strung them gingerly from their laces. So when they swayed with the wind, they would carry his sense of adventure, unique and undiluted, into the hearts of the people he loved. They must've stood under the sour blue sky with sombre gazes, trying to solidify him into memory, and still left carrying the burden of heavy limbs.

However, I pictured this slight pair of shoes is the bud of spring among the bitter branches of winter, and the owner, whoever he was, would come and wear them again, smiling, and slowly but surely ascend to the clouds. Because no darkness or season can last forever, one day his loved ones would walk as they all had, to this dry and barren tree, and his spirit would live once more in their company. Little by little, the aching weight of their hearts would wash away with time, and smiles would grace their faces again.

A sweet breeze blew kisses of petals as the promise of spring chased away the blue, a blue so raw and saturated it illuminated half the sky. Soft yellow blurred into the colour, forming smears of tender green. The sky brightened once again, and it's a new spring day.

This was inspired by the song "Spring Day" by BTS, and I don't know if you would or if you even have time to but I urge you to listen to the song while reading this, it brings it to full effect while talking about the ache of loss and longing.

The picture is taken from the music video.

The Korean culture, it is common for someone to take off their shoes before committing suicide. It's also common in other cultures to string up someone's shoes like that after they've died.
