"you're going be fine," my mom said practically shoving me out of the car.
"whatever. i'll see you later," i shut the car door and walked towards the front of the school.
i've never been to a new school. it's bad enough trying to come in on the first day, but it's even worse coming in months after school started.
opening the school doors there was an administrator waiting to take me to the guidance office.
"you must be julianna? im Mrs. Deets, your new principal." she shoved her hand out in front of me, expecting me to shake it. i awkwardly raised my hand into hers, and pulled away almost immediately. i barely know this woman, why on earth would i touch her hand? "anyways julianna, we've assigned someone to help you get to your classes okay, come into my office and you'll meet kenzie!"
"i don't need anyone to help me, thanks. i checked the map online, i know where my classes are and i can get to them myself." i exclaimed, pulling my backpack string above my shoulder.
"okay," miss deets approved, "is there anything you need to know?"
"my locker number and combination but that's pretty much it."
"hm." she peered into a clipboard, "it's 45-78, and the combination is 246753"
"thanks," i walked away from the principle and towards the stairwell.
it was true, i did check the map before i came to the school. i was prepared to not have to talk to any adults apart from my teachers throughout the whole day.
as i made my way into the stairwell, and opened the doors, i saw a kid around my age, lying on the ground after the first set of stairs. he was holding his ankle as though it was broken, and his belongings were scattered everywhere.
"hey, are you okay?" i asked on my way down the steps, bending down every few to pick up something.
he turned his head towards me and his eyes widened, "i'm fine. thanks though," he started to stand up but he cringed when he stepped on the hurt ankle.
"clearly you're not, do you want me to get ice? i can go to the nurse-"
"no, i said i'm fine. bye..." the boy thought about it for a second, "i actually don't know your name."
"maybe because it's my first day. my names annie." i picked up his backpack and zipped the pocket.
"really? how do you know your way around so much already?" he grabbed his bag.
"it's called the internet." i laughed and began down the lower set of steps.
i got to the very end of the stairs before he shouted, "my names asher, by the way."
i nodded and exited the stairwell. the school was huge. i headed in the direction of my locker, which was at the northern end of the campus. i approached the set of numbers my locker was apart of.
45- 74, 45-75, 45-76, 45-77...
"hey julianna!" a girl exclaimed from behind me. i jumped with the slightest bit of fear inside of me.
"who are you?" i questioned opening the correct locker.
"my names mackenzie ziegler, but you can call me kenzie. i was supposed to help you around school but you don't need it, but i still wanted to offer you a seat at my lunch table. here's my phone number, text me." she handed me a small piece of paper.
"thanks i guess. i'll text you." i said grabbing the paper from her hands.
"so what's your first class?" kenzie queried, leaning against the locker beside mine.
"intro to chemistry, with Miss. Brooks." i sighed putting everything into place.
"me too! finally i have someone i actually like in that class" kenzie laughed.
i closed my locker and kenzie and i walked to our first class.
we arrived two minutes late, and when we stepped in i was greeted with a grumbling Miss. Brooks in the doorway.
"i assume you girls have an excuse for being late? and who are you? girl in the blue?" i glanced down and saw the blue strings of my champion hoodie.
"i'm new today, julianna? sorry am i in the wrong class?  i thought for sure my-"
"no you're in the right class, sorry i didn't get the email until this morning and then my son texted me and- you know what let's move on. so julianna tell us some things about yourself."
"um i lived an hour away but i moved here, i have a little sister hayley, and i do competitive cheerleading." i turned back towards the teacher and with a smile i added, "where should i sit"
"well," she glanced at her clipboard, "i assume the only open seat is back there with Mr. Angel. you can take a seat there on the back left." she grinned and pointed to a back table where a familiar face sat with a smirk written on his face.
i made my way to the back with my head facing the ground when i suddenly felt a hand on my lower back, and a slap on my ass. i turned abruptly towards it and squinted my eyes to make out the guy. wearing a black hoodie with the hood pulled over his head and white ripped jeans, winked in my direction, "creep." i mumbled underneath my breath, and reaching my desk i set my book bag on the floor underneath it.
"hey, that kids a freak. i promise not everyone is like him here." i heard from my right. i turned to see asher with a grin wiped on his face.
"yeah, ok." i mumbled trying to not make eye contact with his eyes.
"ok now that we're settled in, class i want you to pull out your notebooks. if anyone would be so kind as to fill julianna in on what we have done so far, that would be lovely." the teacher being writing on the smart board.
"julianna? i thought you said your name was annie." asher asked.
"well my real name is julianna but i go by annie."
"really? where did that come from?"
"long story." i turned back to my notes.
"whatever you say."
.
when the class finished i began to stand and pack away my notebook in my bag, asher slipped a small piece of paper on my side of the desk. i glanced down  at it, soon realizing it's a phone number.
"text me sometime, julianna." he walked out of the classroom and kenzie practically sprinted up to me.
"did you just get asked out by asher? on your first day? dayum anns you got sum GAME" kenzie laughed as we walked out of the classroom.
"he didn't ask me out, i'm sure he does this to about 700 other girls per year. plus im honestly not open to anything like that right now, i actually broke it off with someone when i moved and we'd dated for 2 years. and, anns? is that your nickname for me out something?"
"first of all, yes that's your nickname. second, really? give me details on that later, and third he actually doesn't. the dude hasn't dated anyone since last year when he dated emily skinner. he's actually very picky." kenzie said seriously.
"i'll see you at lunch kenzie." i smiled heading off in a different direction then her. thoughts rushed through my mind about how on earth it happened so quickly.
