moving to a new school district is hard enough, but especially moving after your parents recent divorce. annie moves to elk creek with her mom and sister, and everything in her life changes in a flash.
walking into the 7th period lunchroom, i pulled myself together and walked to kenzie's table. while i was approaching i noticed a whole group of what seemed to be popular guys at a lunch table in the back corner staring at me. among the faces i noticed asher, whom looked away when our eyes met. ashers pov "who calls her?" carson whistled at annie. "me" half the table screamed. "you know we should really give this one to angel, he hasn't gotten much since you know who." greg rolled his eyes. "why do you guys always feel the need to treat girls like they're objects? they aren't. annie's seems like a nice genuine girl, and i feel bad she's going to get robbed by her confidence when one of you dates her just for sex and then breaks up with her after." "woah calm down. we aren't doing anything wrong. we like her body, and there isn't a problem with physical attraction." carson explained. "wait you know this chick?" matt asked. "what? why would you think that?" i said confused. "you said annie, her name is julianna. do y'all have nicknames or something?" "she's my lab partner, but that's it. i've never talked to her anytime else." of course i didn't mention the first meeting, in the stairwell. my friends would never let it go if they heard i was choking under pressure about a girl. annie's pov i gulped my fear down into my stomach and approached the table. "hey annie! sit!" kenzie smiled patting the seat next to her. i walked around to that side of the table and took my seat beside kenzie. "so everyone, this is annie. and annie this is jayden, brynn, and lilia!" "hey, you're so pretty!" brynn exclaimed with a grin. "aw thank you!" i replied. i've never gotten a genuine compliment before that from a friend. "we were just talking about sleeping over at brynns tonight, do you want to come?" kenzie asked. "oh no, i wouldn't barge in on your night like that, i don't need to come." i declined "you don't need to come, but you're welcome to. type your number in." brynn handed me her phone. i handed it back once i was finished. "perfect, now you're in our group chat. i'll text the details on the bus." "so annie, who was your old boyfriend? was he cute?" kenzie questioned. "well, his names johnny orlando. he was honestly the most stable thing i had in my life when my parents spilt. i loved him more then anything, he was my rock. but he just wasn't comfortable with long distance. which i completely understand, it's just i'm not gonna be ready for a new relationship for a while." "aw, i'm sorry. doesn't that mean you said no to asher?" "he never actually asked me out, i haven't known him for more then a 40 minute class period. he just gave me his number."
