Chapter One: Far From Home

~One Year Later~

Blaire POV
Running through the woods, leaves that fell in Fall were crunching as I was running with Missy, I was hunting for an animal, but unfortunately had no luck with it, not even finding a rabbit to snack on, I stopped when I leaned against the tree when I stepped on my foot wrong temporarily,"Primus come in" I picked up my walkie talkie,"Not finding anything, what about you?" Static after I took my thumb off and put it back on the bottom,"And Howell, you don't have to talk like that"lA couple months back, when Howell and I were travelling, we saw an abandoned camp from the looks of it, I snagged a bow and arrow, I heard some rustling then I accidentally aimed it at Dylan when he made noises from behind. He had his hands up and said,"Primus! Don't make me regret letting you get that"
"Who said I had to get your consent? Just know that a bow and arrow is just as lethal as a gun or a knife, but more quiet" I said as I was putting the bow around me and the arrow behind me, Dylan picked up his walkie,"Marilyn?"
"Yes?"
"Okay just checking in, now remember what I told you about defense when it comes to zombies" She sighed,"Into the head, quick and quiet"
"Do you have to ask her everytime we leave her? She's not alone" I asked him that when we started walking and my feeling in my foot was back, there was static and silent,"Yeah, but I can't trust those three just yet" On our way, we found 3 people, Leo, Michelle and Fynn, we found them in a abandoned building when we were camping. Neither of us surrendered until we told them our identities and who we are, like how Dylan and I were. I eventually let my guard down and trusted them, he put the walkie talkie back in his pocket and we started walking,"If we can't get an animal, we're gonna have to go fishing until then"
"That works because if we're gonna have the cooked deer or a rabbit, tonight is either gonna be sushi or grilled salmon"
"Please, please don't put images into my head, I'm already hungry as it is" I apologized and added,"We also need to get something for Missy as well" She whined and I petted her knowing that she feels the same way as us, we went from Lewiston and Clarkston to Adams, OR,"Blaire you there? Dylan? Think I found something" It was Leo,"Leo, tell us where you are" He was over the hillside near this house that looks like it's been abandoned,"Look what I found" Leo came down the hill,"Ho oh my god, if we kept traveling, we wouldn't have been able to camp in a van or tents"
"Marilyn, Michelle, Fynn, pack your bags and put them in the car, we found another house that looks untouched, did you check if the house is empty?" He nodded,"i already went in there and holy shit, there's only two bedrooms and huge living room with a couch and a bed" An hour later, we were finally settled, there was wood set up, so we made fire in the fireplace, Marilyn was sleeping on the bunk bed close to the front door, Missy took the couch in the living,"Good news, I got the water from the river, put it in a purifier to heat it up for a nice warm shower or bath"

Late at night, the others took the other beds, so I slept across Missy,"Hey Blaire, can I talk to you?"
"Yeah sure" Dylan walked in and sat on one of the chairs,"About last year when we were..." He started stuttering, I made a confused face,"Slow dancing..." I nodded,"Ohhh yeah that, what about it?"
"Are we cool? You know"
"You are adorable when you act this way, but as I said before, we have Marilyn, Missy and the 3 that has joined us" He looked down,"Okay"
"You still do understand right? I mean, I want to be with you, but it's just...." He nodded and had his hands together, I squatted down and held hands with him,"Dylan, imagine if I had a dilemma, Marilyn or Missy about to get hurt and you too, then I chose you, it would make me look and feel bad"
"I never really thought of that"
"We can wait until we can go back to The Organization, but for now, we need to focus on getting home" I kissed him on the cheek then he moved his head to kiss me, it kinda felt like my heart rate went up, we let go, I took a deep breath as our foreheads were touching,"Dylan, I uh think we need to get to sleep now, we have a schedule tomorrow" He nodded,"But if um you need somewhere to sleep, you can sleep here with...uh" I smiled awkwardly,"Me?" He got up and took off his jacket, he was already in his sweatpants and he just slowly climbed into the small bed,"O-okay"
"I'm saying you don't have to"
"I know, it's just gonna be..."
"Weird? Uncomfortable?"
"An experience because of how we were at the beginning"
"Isn't there anyone on watch?" I asked him and he shook his head"No, but I'm sure that we'll know and otherwise, you're a light sleeper, you'll probably be the first to know"
"Possibly" Marilyn and Leo took the bunk bed, Michelle and Fynn took the bedroom, so might as well be a trailer,"You know, if you feel uncomfortable, I can sleep on the floor" I shook my head,"No, no I think we'll be okay, we just never slept at the same time" He agreed with me,"I guess after months of the same routine the suddenly having the new routine is unsettling for both of us" I nodded and I laid back down,"We don't have to do this, I can take first watch"
"I'm not complaining Dylan, it's just..."
"I'll take first watch" I nodded,"You don't have to lose sleep, it's just that..." He climbed back in,"If a zombie comes in here, this is on you"
"Okay" I chuckled slightly and laid back down, he draped his arm around me and pulled me closer an hour later, so he must've been in deep sleep.
