Chapter Five: The Dirty Truth

Blaire POV
It was week 2 at the house and the Winter is slowing down, there wasn’t any snow sticking, possibly not yet anyway, Dylan was better and wanted to go out there and find more things and needed to go out there since he was experiencing Cabin Fever,”Michelle, Dylan and I are gonna go out to look for more supplies” Angel overheard and came in with her jacket on,”I’ll come”
“Negative Angel, you stay here with the others, trust me, let the Scavengers handle it” She went back into the kitchen without saying a word, I made a face that was saying: Really? “We’ll be back before Nighttime and if we’re not back by then, you know what to do” She nodded and we went out there, Michelle and Leo switch places on lookout, so we grabbed our empty bags and weapons we need in case we bump into some bad people out there. I pulled out a knife and stabbed one into the head,”Good thinking” I thanked him and we pulled the zombie back up,”What the hell are you doing?”
“If you don’t like it, then don’t look away” We put our hands into her guts and spread it all over our clothes, as much as I hate it, but it helps us,”Why are you guys doing this?”
“This is what we had to do to get through Lewiston and Clarkston”
“Oh God, I didn’t even think of that, now I’m actually missing the countryside” I smiled and put some on my pants, we were done and we were actually on our way to go out there,”If there are any survivors here-”
“No, we already have enough Howell, we don’t need to fix up another car” He nodded,”Look, if we were still in The Organization and still Scavengers, I would want to bring in many people as possible, but we can’t, okay?” He looked at me and said it again,”It’s okay, I can understand from what you’re saying” We went down the street, headed towards Dave’s Chevron,”Do you think that Michelle and Angel checked in here?”
“I don’t know, but it’s better to check for something than come back with nothing” He nodded and we went in there with glass crunching even more,”So how’s you and Angel, you guys seem to be getting along a lot more” He sighed,”Are you mad?”
“What?” He walked from one of the tables and walked up to me,“You are aren’t you?” I made a confused face,”No, I’m not mad, I was just asking about you two”
“Why is it important?”
“Dylan, we are in a group, there’s not much to do when you have 4 adults, 3 kids and a Husky with no internet or any life on earth” I did make a point and he apologized,”It’s just that when you and her were talking, you were all up in her face about it”
“Are you guys together?” He didn’t answer,”If you are, that’s okay, I won’t get mad” He looked down and sniffled lightly, he was still getting over the cold he had,”Yeah, we are, we have been for a couple weeks” It did feel like my heart was torn just a tad, but I wasn’t going to play games with him because I’m not that kind of woman to do something like that anymore,”That’s good, I mean I know you can’t wait around for someone like me”

We didn’t even talk more about that because I knew when I said that, I fucked up, I fucked up real bad,”We should go to Dollar Tree, something for Marilyn?”
“Yeah and by the way, what did you mean when you told Michelle that she knows what to do if we don’t make it back?” I scratched my nose as I put First Aid into my bag,”Primus?” I looked underneath the counter and I looked up,”I wasn’t gonna leave Marilyn out there in the world on her own, I told her that if there’s a chance that you and I are scouting out here and we don’t come back before a time we put down, she would take care of her no matter what. Michelle and Leo have tried, many many times, but no luck”
“Why would you do that?”
“Dylan, we both know that you and I have survival skills, but how long is that going to last until one of us dies?” He came in front of me and he had his hands on my shoulders,”Blaire, we are not going to die, I know that you and I are gonna live until we’re both old and can’t even go out there and scavenge, but we can teach the next generation caused God knows how long this will last, I know it and I know that deep down, you know it too” I was quiet for a little bit after what he said, I wasn’t going to lie, it did touch me a little, but I couldn’t show it,”We need to get going Howell” I couldn’t show my actual reactions, I didn’t know then, I was such a stupid 20 year old.
