Chapter Fifteen: The Undead City

Blaire POV
The next morning, we all got up and loaded everything in the RV,"Dylan, we have a problem..."Dylan and I walked over to Michelle and Chloe,"The bottom is kinda filled and the blankets are taking up half the room" Dylan shrugged,"I-I never really...."
"You just put the things inside the blankets and roll it gently depending on it and you'll save yourself a ton of room" I looked over at Dylan and he was looking at me like he just saw a ghost and he liked it,"What? What is it?"
"Nothing it's just, I can't believe you..."
"Dylan, anyone else in this group would've thought of that, now let's keep packing of the things we need" Courtney, Fynn and Javier ran over with something,"Blaire, we have tents, when we're in the middle of nowhere, we can always use these, there's enough for all of us"
"They're big also"
"That'll work, I'm gonna check inside the house, Dylan make sure if there's anything useful out here" He ran all over the place as I went back inside, Marilyn was sitting there on the couch,"Marilyn, we're getting ready to leave soon" She was sitting there staring off into space,"Marilyn?" I got in front of her,"Marilyn, we need to go now"
"Why do we die?"
"What?"
"Why do we die?"
"Because...there's a limit for us to be on Earth because God knows that we have either done enough good for this world or too much bad" She looked down,"Why are you asking me this?" She shrugged,"I don't know where my brother is, he went to Lapwai High School and haven't seen him since"
"I'm sure you'll see him soon, what was your brother's name?"
"Dane Smartlowit" My heart jumped and instantly went to Dane's hysteria when he went outside,"Do you know him?" I knew I had to be honest,"Yes, yes I did and I'm going to be honest with you like I was with your parents" She looked at me with her big doe eyes,"Dane was hysterical in our cafeteria, I tried to stop him and...."
"Did he go outside with those zombies out there?" I nodded slowly,"He did and not too long after that, a military bus came, if only he just stayed in there a little bit longer" She was about to cry and she hugged me,"Oh it's okay, Marilyn I tried helping him, but he was always having trouble with tight spaces and big crowds, it's not his fault and it's not yours, you didn't know about it then and I wish I could've done better"
"It's okay, it's okay" She sniffled and wiped her tears away,"I'm an orphan"
"No, you're not. An orphan is a child without a family, you have a family" I smiled at him lightly and she was happy to hear that,"Family doesn't always have to mean blood, it can also mean the ones that you're with and trust...do you trust us?" She nodded,"Yes, I do"
"Let's keep going, search the house for anything useful and take it out to the RV" She got up and we looked as much as we could.

When we were done finding the things we need which were stakes to keep the tents down, pots and pans for cooking, natural food, cans, firearms,"Will I be ready to fight?" Marilyn asked me when we were carrying the boxes out,"Ready yes, but prepared, no because sometimes you really don't know what's about to hit you" We put the boxes in, put half the firearm in the RV and the rest in Courtney's car, unfortunately Javier is gonna have to leave his precious car, but he took out the most important part because he did not want anyone else to take it,"Javier, there's no one that will take it"
"Why because it's too much to take in? Too cool?" He got up closer to me,"Because it's tacky, I mean there isn't any room to put supplies in" Courtney walked up to us,"It's true, it is tacky, the girls from High School might've liked it, but in a situation like this, as long as you got the supplies and an extra bed for them, they'll love ya" She patted his shoulder and he was speechless,"Let's get moving" We had an extra map for them, so we handed them one,"So Lincoln City?"
"Should be past Spirit Mountain, so we should be on the right track, we'll have walkies, Courtney, you know the way right?"
"Y-yeah I think so"
"You guys are in a smaller car, so you're in front and lead the way" Courtney nodded as we handed her the walkie,"So that way you guys won't lose us?"
"Yeah exactly, it's now 7am" We got moving, Missy climbed on the RV with us, Marilyn wanted to ride with Courtney and Javier, we were okay with that. Since Leo was gone and got a proper burial a couple days ago, Javier's father actually had a tux that fit him and they rolled him up with blankets that were from the hotel and wrapped him up, Fynn and Michelle decided to do the burial alone, some of them offered, obviously I couldn't then, but they had it done and they were thankful that they got a chance to do it, so Dylan took over the driving and I was in the passenger seat,"We gained 2 more, but lost one"
"He helped us though, Leo was a great man and I am happy that I had the privilege to know Leon Chamberlain" I said to Dylan,"I always saw him as a brother, I guess I should've told him that" I rubbed his shoulder and he held my hand,"I'm sure he knows, always have and always will...Wow"
"What?"
"All this time, we have been worrying about this and that, now we're talking about Leo and we should've done that earlier"
"It's okay, it's better late than never" I nodded,"Leo has saved our asses before and do you wanna know what I said to him a couple weeks after they joined?"
"What'd you say?"
"I told him that it's gonna take me a while to trust all of them and if he or any of them ever crosses the line by harming any of us or anything compared to that, we are leaving them" I nodded,"Seems reasonable, I mean Michelle and I gave each other glares for 2 weeks straight until Fynn decided to talk to me normally and that situation in Athena?"
"Oh god that one" He laughed lightly,"Hey hey it's not funny" I nudged him and he said ow lightly,"It kinda is"
"For you, it wasn't for me"
"C'mon you're still holding onto that?"
"Not until I accidentally mentioned it" I don't want to mention it because I don't want to relive the moment,"Courtney knows about us"
"What? How?"
"Michelle wanted her to ask me about us like high school, but I told her about us, she decided not to tell because she understood. She was in relationships that she had to keep secret about" He nodded,"I thought I couldn't trust her until she saved us and helped you with your wound"
"I could, right from the start"
"How?"
"I don't always save people you know, it just depends on the person, we let Marilyn and Missy for a reason, we let those 3 back there, I had a funny feeling about Angela, we were forced to take her, I knew that eventually that she was gonna have to show her true colors and those 2 up there, I knew that we could trust them because it was a feeling and I usually go with a feeling"
"And are you right most of the time?"
"We're still alive aren't we?" He smiled lightly while looking at the road, we started driving through the woods,"You don't think they're like, cannibals do you?"
"No, why?"
"I'm just curious I mean, we have the supplies with us now, they're driving into the road that have trees where we could barely see the zombies" We finally pulled into Lincoln City and there was a lot,"We're about to see a whole lot more"
"Jesus Christ" Missy came through the curtain and saw me, laid her head on my lap,"You're okay Missy, you're okay" She whined,"Poor girl needing her attention" Chloe opened the curtains,"How close are we-oh my god" She made a disgusted face,"Welcome to Lincoln City folks" They were everywhere, we had to drive slow,"This is gonna be a slow drive to the coast"
"Yeah no kidding, so much for my vacation" Chloe stood there,"These poor people"
"They're not who they used to be Chloe" Dylan said to her as he was driving the RV slower, he turned around the corner and we saw the beach,"Oh wow"
"If only there weren't many zombies out there" Heard Javier over the walkie, I picked it up and clicked,"If only this apocalypse wasn't happening"
"Yeah that too"
"We keep following the Coastline and we don't stop until we get to the California and Oregon Borderline"

Courtney POV
Javier looked behind at Marilyn and she was asleep then he started talking,"Is there anyway we can all make it there in one piece?" I gripped onto the wheel,"I'm trying to be positive that maybe we will, I mean they've made it this far"
"But they lost one person, what do you think might happen? We might make it in one piece?" I took a deep inhale,"Javier, you know we can do this, is this because we've left our own house?" he started fidgeting with his chinese finger toy,"Yeah I think so, I mean, well..." I patted his back,"I know, I know" I looked back to the road and I swerved,"Watch out!" I almost turned into a U turn, but I stopped,"Roll down the window!" He loaded his gun and I rolled it down, he shot the walker in the head, Marilyn woke up and asked what happened,"Nothing, we're okay, we're alright" Blaire and Chloe ran to the car,"Are you guys okay?" I looked over at them shocked as I nodded my head,"Mary?"
"I'm okay, I had the seatbelt on" Chloe was on lookout for any more zombies,"Guys hurry up! That gunshot attracted out of the frigging buildings" Blaire nodded and suggested that we should at least head to Newport for starters,"Yeah, we should and Marilyn, go ride with them and Chloe, climb on here, we're gonna need another adult on here until we get to Newport"
"Good idea" Marilyn came out and they switched,"We gotta hurry come on!"

Blaire POV
Marilyn and I came back inside the RV,"Are they okay?" Fynn asked and I nodded,"Yeah they're okay, damn stray walkier out there had them almost swerving off the road" Dylan nodded and I sat back down,"Why did they switch?"
"They needed another adult on there, by the way we're headed to Newport for the night" He started the RV and we continued our journey. Eventually, there was a fog ahead which also explains why we couldn't see the walkers that much, but we knew that they were out there, we stopped by a motel in Newport, it was night time, we would've made it to California late at night, but it's terrible out there, just terrible, they all got into their rooms, Dylan was still out there, I walked back into my room with Chloe,"I'll be right back" There weren't any electricity, so I brought out the lantern and went out there with my bow and arrow,"Hey Dylan, are you okay?"
"Yeah yeah" He sniffled,"Are you sure?" He didn't answer, so I waited until he answered, even if it was quiet,"Why does it have to be like this?" My heart jumped when he started talking, but he was looking down,"Wh-what do you mean?"
"I mean this, us, them, The Organization, this world. I try to stay strong for Marilyn and she had constant questions, for God's sakes, I taught her how to use a gun at this age, what's this world to become?" He looked over at me,"We're Orphans Blaire, we lost our parents, almost everyone we knew and everything we were before, I-I don't think it matters"
"Yes it does, it does matter, that's the one thing we can hold onto until Death comes to us, I've known that we were orphans for a long time, I know it's hard to accept, but it's what we are now, but who we are now doesn't mean we have to act like Orphans, just know that we are Orphans and also know that Orphans can also have families too" I looked over at the motel,"I just feel lost here Blaire, I-I don't know what to do, I don't know what to-" He started hyperventilating,"Dylan, Dylan hey hey, I'm right here" I had him look at me,"Look at me, look at me" I whispered to him,"Take a deep breath" He looked at me in the eye,"I'm so scared Blaire"
"I know, so am I, so am I" His breath was shuddering, he looked like he was about to cry,"How did we ever manage to get in a shithole like this?"
"It's still better than out in the middle of the woods with no house or anything like that" He nodded slowly,"It's...it's just...."
"You don't have to say it Dylan, I know" I hugged him and he hugged me tightly.

I wrapped my arms around his neck and we kissed, it was about to become intense, but I pulled away,"I don't think we should..."
"Yeah yeah"
"Especially you being..." He nodded,"I think we should when we're in the same place and right now it's...it's getting there" I took a deep breath that was staggering from my heart pounding

Chloe POV
I was sharpening the bows for Blaire, I was starting to get worried, so I grabbed a walkie,"Hey Blaire you okay?" It was a minute and I clicked it again,"Blaire where are you?" I started walking around the room,"Chloe I'm okay, Dylan and I are just gonna be on watch for tonight, you can just sleep there"
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah, don't worry, Missy will be there, she's a good guard dog" I was slightly worried and I don't know about them being alone out there, but she has told me that they have been partners for over a year, nothing much happened, so i guess I could trust them since they have experience in survival,"I'll take over later on tonight, wake me up when it's my turn" Michelle clicked in,"I'll take watch with you Chloe"
