Chapter Seven: Seven Alone

Courtney POV
"What are you guys talking about? Scavengers? What?" Javier came out,"What the hell is going on? Did you find anything out about these people?" I whispered into his ear,"They have Minors in there"
"You guys shouldn't even be here, get them out if here" I told Javier to be quiet and let one of them finish,"Thank you for that very warm welcome" Dylan said to him,"They started telling me about this organization in California-" Javier cut me off,"How would you guys know about that?"
"We were separated from them over a year ago, they mentioned that we were headed down there because of the weather and electricity from Solar Panels, they wouldn't leave, they formed in Idaho, gathering everyone from Washington, Montana and there also, staying there temporarily then head over there to stay there"
"We think it'll be the last Group standing considering that there's Military Services there" I looked over at Javier,"This is the answer we've been praying for" He shook his head,"Negative, we're staying put, we already have a good home and making a good living, the dead hasn't come over here in a long ass time and that's because of your ex husband"
"Ex husband? Nikolas the ex husband?" I looked over at Dylan in a guilty way,"I'm afraid so" Blaire begged that we should stay here,"Nikolas does house inspections, I can't put you and your group at risk"
"That's right, she can't, we can't. We've had a good survival life here and the last thing we need is a group of kids that will murder us" Okay okay I still have a soft spot,"We have a dumb waiter, we can hide the children in there, how old are they?"
"One's 18, I think old enough now so that makes it 2 minors. One is 15 and the other is 9" Javier looked at me like I was about to make the biggest mistake of my life,"We can fit them, wake them up, they'll search your RV first" Then Javier finally agreed, I thanked him and he told me once, only once,"And if you get your ass in trouble, don't expect to get you out of it" That wouldn't be the first time I've heard him say that and help me, but you never know with him. Dylan came out carrying the drowsy child,"Papa, I'm tired"

Dylan POV
I looked over at Blaire shocked,"She's asleep Dylan, she sleep talks, she called me Mama a few times, it's not a big deal, I don't think she'll remember what she called you" Courtney looked at us with Empathy and led us the way to the dumb waiter, Fynn was behind us,"Nikolas doesn't know about this, so they have to keep quiet, we have a group here and they are on the same mindset like Nikolas. There's only 3 more people in here and they don't know either, so we'll say that you came by and needed a place to stay temporarily, here you go" She opened it,"Thanks"
"Anytime" He put her in there,"Fynn, this is Courtney and don't be like your usual self because we have just entered a critical situation, you either be quiet or you keep her quiet as much as you can, she is going to panic, assure her, got that?" He nodded, Blaire came in,"Here's one of the flashlights and the stories that I've written for her to keep calm" He took them inside and she closed it,"You guys seem to take good care of her"
"Her parents died, but her father made sure that we were great guardians after he was bitten over a year ago" She nodded,"I'm sure she is lucky to have you both" She walked upstairs,"Did she just call us the adopted parents in a way?" I shrugged,"From what we heard yeah, did you also give Fynn the walkie talkie?"
"Yeah, we gotta wake the others up, we have one hour" We walked out to the RV and woke everyone up,"Guys we need to have a group chat"
"Where's Fynn and Marilyn? What did you do with them?" Michelle was angry and almsot went up to him, but Blaire went in front of me to protect me,"It's okay, they're alright, they're inside the house and there is gonna be someone checking out the house in a couple hours and until they get the okay, we'll be on our way"
"Who are they? What kind of group are they?"
"The leaders of the house is Courtney and Javier, they are in a group that doesn't allow minors AT ALL, but Courtney and Javier are willing to help us, they hid them in a dumb waiter and their group doesn't know about it" We had to explain EVERYTHING to them for them to understand and they did and it was a half hour until Nikolas comes here, we brought them in, Courtney was in the kitchen,"H-How do you guys have electricity?" Michelle asked her as she was cooking and making Coffee,"We have Generators, we use Gasoline for fuel to keep it going, that's Nikolas' way of paying us back for following his rules"
"And if you disobey?"
"We lose our gasoline for a month, we lose our barricades that's surrounding this place and we are fucked" Leo said to Courtney after what she said,"But you're breaking the rules now" She put the food on serving plates,"This wouldn't be the first time, I gotta wake the group up, Nikolas is gonna be here any minute, he likes his breakfast hot and ready, you guys can eat, there's enough" She went in one of the hallways and I went after her,"Why are you even in a so called group with this asshole you call an ex husband?"
"There are some prices we have to pay in order to survive Dylan, you wouldn't know that. You've been out of that organization for that girl, by the way, why did you look for her in a abandoned city full of zombies?" I looked over at her, she was eating and chatting with Michelle and Leo,"Because I know she can take care of herself and survive that long for someone like me to find her, but after what has happened to both of us, she said she would've died because she was close to Hell's Canyon in Lewiston, Idaho, it took us almost a month to get back, luckily I found her before all that, I'm sure you would've done the same thing for your brother"
"Well not gonna lie, Javier is an asshole, but he's family, what is she to you though? A sister? A companion?"
"We consider ourselves partners" She nodded and walked away to wake the others up
