Chapter Four.
We're Looking For Michael Glass.
When Claire woke, she felt warm and lazy, and the bed was way too comfortable that she felt like she might not ever move. Her face was buried into Shane's soft back, her arms wrapped around his torso, and she could feel his heart beating softly against the palm of her hand. Claire smiled as she pressed soft and gentle kisses to his shoulder blades, and it was only when he began to stir that she stopped. Carefully and slowly, she moved onto her elbow and peeked at Shane's face. His eyes were closed, his lips parted at the slightest gap, and strands of brown hair caressed his cheeks.
Reluctantly, she sank back into the mattress, and as she turned to lie on her back, she stared up at the bare ceiling above her. Shane's bedroom seemed to askew Claire's senses. She always felt hotter, like she was lying on the bed the wrong way, and the odd feeling that Eve's bedroom was right next door. That had been the main reason why Shane and Claire hadn't done anything last night, and instead, had stayed up to twelve watching horror films that Claire hated and Shane loved. She was sure that she had fallen asleep first, but the television was still switched on, and for a while, Claire stared at the menu title of The Ring.
She patted the bed for the remote control, careful not to wake Shane, and sat up slowly as she checked under the pillows. She poked her head over the mattress to check the floor, and as quietly as she could, reached underneath Shane's bed.
"What are you doing?" He murmured, his voice croaky and thick from sleep. Claire jumped, as if she had been caught doing something bad, and she turned to face her boyfriend. His caramel brown eyes were slanted but kind, and he was watching her lazily. His eyebrows were raised, and his eyes flickered down to the hand reaching underneath the bed, and the back up to her face. "If you're looking for my candy stash, it isn't under the bed."
"I'm looking for --" She hadn't even finished her sentence before Shane fished the remote from somewhere underneath his body, and Claire mouthed a thank you as she switched off the television. "But, now that you mention it. Candy stash?"
"No way. My candy."
"Girlfriend?"
Shane thought about that. "Sorry. No can do."
Claire pouted, but Shane wasn't giving up. After a moment, she sighed and rolled out of the bed. She heard a mumble of protest from Shane, and then a comment on how cute she looked in her pink sweatpants, but Claire poked her tongue out at him. "No candy, no Claire."
"But Claire! Candy!" Claire was almost at the bedroom door. "Okay! Take-backs. You can share my candy."
"Too late," Claire grinned with over enthusiastic cheer, and her day brightened when she saw the scowl on her boyfriend's face. He gestured for her to come back, which she shook her head to, and with a pout, pulled the sheets over his head.
Claire tossed a ratty sneaker at him, and hurried out of the room before he could hurl it back.

After she'd showered and dressed in fresh, warm, clothes, Claire ignore Shane's room completely in fear that he would only drag her back into the haven of his bed, and instead made her way downstairs. It was still fairly early in the morning, just gone nine thirty, and she knew that Eve wouldn't wake until noon. Her sleeping schedule had been horrible before, but after the change, Eve's sleeping habits had gone to Hell.
