Return: Part 4

Lenalee set her clothes down on the bed and changed into pajamas. She could hear the voices of Kanda and Lavi in the next room. She was lucky to be sharing a room with someone quiet. Lenalee peeked out the window to see Iris standing outside in the half empty street.

Iris was a shady character. Lenalee didn't trust her. After awhile Iris came back in and went to bed. Lenalee went to bed too but did not sleep peacefully.

Dream

It was a bright sunny day, a plain grassy landscape all around. 2 dots in the distance could be seen. Lenalee walked slowly toward the 2 dots. As she came closer, she could see the 2 dots were a girl and a boy. The boy looked like Tykki but lacked the facial mole. The girl, was Iris. They both lay flat on their backs. "Hey, Neah" Iris said. Neah looked at her. "I know what you are" she continued. Neah's eyes widened slightly. He sat up abruptly. His mouth opened. Iris sat up too. "How-" Neah started.

"Marion"

"Oh"

Quiet filled the air. The wind blew softly, making the grass bend. "Are you scared?" Neah asked. Iris giggled. "Scared? Of you? No way!" she said. Neah looked at her again with a surprised look on his face. "Don't look at me like that, I've known you for awhile Neah. You aren't like the other Noahs." Iris explained. Neah turned away. "Are you sure? I might be the monster everyone says I am. Or I'll probably become one" He replied quietly. Neah dug his fingers into the grass.

"Neah"

Neah's head turned slightly. Iris smiled softly. "You aren't a monster, and if you become one, I'll still be your friend." she said. "How can you be friends with a monster?" Neah asked bitterly. Iris grinned again. "I'll be one with you. So we can still be friends" she said.

"Everyone would hate you too"

"So what? What's the point in friendship if there's no loyalty?"

Neah turned his head away again. "Whatever, you'll probably hate me in the future anyways." he muttered. Iris huffed lightly but smiled once again. "Ok then, lets make a promise." she stated. Neah looked at her surprised. "I promise that if you ever become a monster, I'll become one with you" she swore. Iris looked at him with sincerity through her silver eyes. Neah sighed. "Ok then, I promise to never leave you or Mana's side" he promised. Iris smiled. "You won't break your promise will you?" she asked. Neah grinned.

"Never"

And Lenalee's eyes opened.
