"I always keep one on me. I had it in my tennis bag but strapped it on when I left Peach's castle," she replied. She was stubborn. She was convinced she could take on the world if given the chance.
"No I mean like why do you have them? I saw one in your room too," he pressed.
"It makes me feel safe. I got into a lot of trouble as a kid, walking around places like that and found that carrying a knife helped me rather than not," she explained. He had never asked her about her past or her experiences. They always seemed pressed for time. He felt bad that he never asked her about her story the way she had asked for his. He waited silently as a sign for her to continue talking. She sighed, "I was a little trouble maker back in the day, still am sometimes. I hated the thought of responsibility, I rebelled at every chance I could in an effort for my parents to give up on me. I didn't feel like I could properly express myself through the filter of etiquette and manners a princess had to uphold. I decided it was better to wander around on my own when I wasn't with my close friends. Fighting had become a bad habit of mine. I took every opportunity I could to pick a fight when I was in a bad area. I wanted an excuse to take my anger out on someone else that also probably needed to. I've changed quite a bit from then, but still. I came here to the Mushroom Kingdom because my father wanted me to spend time with some other princesses. He thought they'd be a better influence on me than my friends back home. He wants me to become a proper lady before returning and marrying a nymph of his choice, someone who fits his standard," Aria vented to Waluigi as she scooted closer to him and took the cream from his hands. Waluigi felt his heart in his throat, she was to have an arranged marriage? The thought of it tore him up inside for some reason. Before he could ask further about it she said, "I just like to think I'm strong enough because I know for the most part I will be alone," she said in a quiet and defeated voice. She put some of the cream onto her fingers before touching his cheek. He winced from the pain but it soon started to take effect and became more tolerable.
"Look princess, I get that you wanna act tough and all but you don't have to be alone anymore. I'll walk with you if you want. I'm Waluigi after all, I can take on anyone. Wahaha!" Waluigi put on a toothy smile and gave her a thumbs up. Waluigi couldn't stand to see her look so sad, and hoped that he'd change the mood. She smiled at his weird gesture. It was cute to her that he was trying to make her feel better. The cut on his face started to close and the bruise started to fade. It was no mushroom but it was the best she could offer.
"I'm sorry you got hurt trying to protect me Walu," she traced her fingers across his face as light as feathers, before leaning in to kiss the ghost of the wound. She wanted to show him how thankful she was for him being there. He felt her soft lips touch his once battered cheek and felt his stomach fill with butterflies. It was that weird feeling again, one he couldn't really understand. The feeling of her lips lingered on his face long after she had pulled away. "But thank you for being there to save me," she added.
"No problem," he said as if on autopilot, his mind racing. She got up and cleaned up the bloody towels and headed for the washing machine while he sat there, thinking. What's happening to him? He'd never had these weird feelings before. The racing heart, the tummy butterflies, the constant flustering, it was new to him. Sure he had liked girls in the past, but none had ever affected him in such a way. He was broken away from his thoughts when Aria called for him.
"We should probably get cleaned up, it looks like we've murdered someone," she laughed with the same laugh that made him melt every time. Before he could respond, she was off towards the shower. She turned it on and waited for it to become nice and hot before undressing and stepping inside. Waluigi waited outside patiently for her to finish. He pulled out the red scrunchie from his pocket, he had almost forgot about it. Aria returned, her skin glistening and slightly red from the hot water.
"You left this here the other night," Waluigi handed the princess her scrunchie. Her face lit up when she saw it.
"Thank goodness you found it, it was why I was on my way actually. It's stupid I know but it's always been my favorite, it's lucky," she rolled it onto her wrist and looked back up at him.
"Haha, yeah I was actually on my way to return it to you," he said. She was surprised. Not many people would bother going out of their way to return someone's hair tie of all things. She took it as a sign that he wanted to see her just as much as she wanted to see him and smiled to herself.
"Lovely..." she whispered happily. Waluigi raised a brow to her weird response but was shoved towards the bathroom within seconds. "Quickly, before the blood becomes too hard to scrub off," she ushered him. She closed the door behind him and he was left confused in the bathroom. She got dressed into her underwear and bra because they were the only things that didn't get in the splash zone during the fight. She didn't mind walking around like this, she often did this in her house, and it wasn't like she was completely naked. She looked down and brushed her fingers over her old scars from fighting. The worse they were, the harder they were to heal, but she didn't mind them. What if he thought they were ugly? This thought protruded her mind and made her worrisome.
Waluigi felt the nice warm water hit his skin. He let out a relaxed sigh as he just stood there, facing the showerhead. He touched his cheek and was amazed at how fast it healed without a mushroom. He scrubbed off the blood and sweat from his body before wrapping a towel around his waist. He grabbed a smaller towel and scrubbed his head with it in an effort to get the extra water out. He walked out of the bathroom and faced Aria. She giggled at his wacky hair, its locks flying left and right. "Wa, don't like the new hairdo?" He joked before realizing her attire. He almost dropped his towel in surprise of her appearance. She stood there nonchalantly, unfazed. She looked down at it, she liked it. It didn't seem too revealing to her. She had a red lacy bra and underwear. Not frilly underwear that a princess would usually wear, but more like lingerie. "Do you uh need to borrow some clothes again?" He asked as he continued to stare at her body. She shook her head 'no' at him.
"I'm good thanks, this is pretty comfy. Is that ok?" she asked. She hoped that this much clothing would be ok for just at home, it wasn't like she was out in public or anything.
"Er, I guess so. Just don't let Wario see you, if he comes home tonight that is," Waluigi said. He looked at her toned figure and tiny waist that led to her wide hips. He then took notice of the faint scars running across some parts of her body. They weren't very visible from farther away because of how light they were in color, but it stood out when he was this close. She had one on her stomach as if she had been stabbed, a slash across her chest, and one running down her back. She noticed him staring at her and tried to cover them.
"I'm sorry, do they look ugly?" She asked, feeling exposed for the first time in her life.
"No! No it's just I never saw them before, why hadn't they faded like the rest?" He wondered.
"It's harder to heal the deeper they get. These were just the bad ones I guess," she replied. She was still worried that it ruined her overall image, as that was important to most nymphs. It was definitely a key to their social standing. He walked over to her and put a hand on her shoulder. She slowly lowered her arms and found the courage to look him in the eyes again. He brushed his bare finger lightly over the scar on her chest. It was smooth and glossy, different to the rest of the skin.
"They're pretty, it shows how strongyou are," he reassured. He thought she was beautiful, even if she did havescars. He didn't want her to think otherwise.
