"Elsa?" the woman asks her child. The little girl with blonde hair opens her radiant blue eyes. They wonder around the room, and then fall on her mother. Elsa examines her. She was always beautiful. Her dark hair is twisted into a bun, and her black clothes make her skin glow, like they do on Elsa's. Elsa disliked the fact that her mother was beautiful. It made her feel a little jealous, but Elsa scolded herself when the subject came up.

"Why can't I be as pretty as her? Anna is! She looks just like her! I look like father...except I don't have a mustache," Elsa thought to herself. She wanted to laugh at her silly thoughts, but the stern look on her mother's face said otherwise.

"Yes Mother?" Elsa whispered, not wanting to wake up Anna, her sister who's sleeping in the bunk next to her's.

"Your father and I will be gone for a few hours. I want you to behave. Act like a Dauntless, and nothing else. Protect your sister. Do you understand?" her mother told her. Elsa nodded, and tried to sit up, but her mother set her back down. "no Elsa. Rest. Sleep well. I will see you in a few hours. Be brave."

Elsa didn't really know what to do, so she just went back to sleep.

The sister awoke late in the morning. Usually it was time for warm ups and working out, but today was on hold, for the parents have not arrived.

"Where's Mother and Father?" Anna asked Elsa.

"I don't know Anna..." And it was true. Elsa had forgotten to ask where they were going.

The girls waited. And waited. And waited. Quite a few days had passed, and still no sign of the parents.

"I don't understand...they said that they'd be back in a few hours!" Elsa started to panick, and Anna calmed her down a bit.

"It'll be alright. Maybe Mother meant to say 'a few days' instead of hours." Elsa looked at her sister, and smiled. She was about to say something, but was interrupted by a commotion outside, in the Pit.

The sisters, hand in hand, went out to see what it was about. They pushed through the black clothed crowd, and stopped to get a good look at what was going on. They were surrounding the Chasm. At first, Elsa had thought that it was just another competitive fight, or an initiation contest, but no. It was a death.

This isn't the first death that has occurred. In fact, the sisters had known of many deaths that had occurred in the Chasm.

The sisters peer around a few Dauntless people, and see three large, strong men pulling a rope. Elsa had hugged Anna, and shielded her eyes from the bodies. Anna was shivering in fear, but Elsa was frozen. Anna couldn't see, and Elsa was glad, but then the gladness disappeared when the faces of the drenched bodies came into view. Elsa wanted to crumple to her knees, or perhaps even jump into the Chasm itself. All of the happiness in her life had died. Instantly. Anna whimpered, and Elsa cried, for the dead bodies belong to their mother and father.
