The Trials

Robotic Friendship // Chapter 11

Miles standing at the end of the table was making me nervous. The way he looked at us each individually offset my feelings about him. Why was he acting superior? Was he some sort of guide as well?

"We're just finishing dinner and then I'll get them situated with their living quarters" Cameo tells Miles, referring to us.

"Sounds like a plan" He said with a smile, that made me even more uncomfortable. "Have a good night guys" Miles said back, and turned around and went back towards the main exit.

"What's his deal?" Arin said through a mouthful of pizza and continued. "He seemed hostile"

"That's Miles" Cameo told us as he pushed his plate forward up the table and rested his elbows on the table. "Let's just say he's a little jealous about this situation"

"Jealous?" The shy girl, Maia, asked back.

"Yeah, you were supposed to be under the guidance of Miles, but Clint changed his mind and elected me to be the guide of Class 8. Apparently, he really wanted the position" Cameo explained to us. "For what reason he's holding some sort of grudge, I couldn't tell you"

Miles did seem like the type of person to hold a grudge, but for what reason? I mean he could be jealous that Cameo stole his guide position, but still, there's not a reason for holding this anger against all of us. It's best to stay very focused and prepared for anything.

"Well, that was delicious" Avalon said, and putting his napkin on his plate. "However, I personally need some sleep" He said with a chuckle, and a few others joined in, same with me.

"Well, then, I'll bring you all to your sleeping arrangements" Cameo said, and stood up. We all did the same and followed him outside the cafeteria, and he brought us to the bottom of the stairs, and stopped. "Before we get any further, I'd like to show you something."

As on cue, a window from the cafeteria shatters and a small whizzing object flies towards us. It seems grey, but it's moving so fast that I can't tell what it is.

"What the-" Evan says as fast moving floating object smacks into his head. "OUCH!" He says and puts a hand where the object hit him on the head. The object is laying on the ground and a small whizzing sound comes from it and it floats back up and flies and hovers around Cameo's head. It's the size of a tennis ball, and silver with a small camera lens in the front.

"Zoe" Cameo starts, "We practiced not crashing through the window, remember?"

The small bot spoke, in a simple robotic tone. "Sorry, accidents happen" She said, and spun around.

"Everyone, meet Zoe. A second hand around here. She'll be watching over you guys as well as I, except shes a little more in your face" Cameo said with a chuckle. "High programmed AI, with everything you could imagine" He added

"Nice to meet you guys!" Zoe said and a bright flash appeared from the front lense. "I took a picture for memories" She added, and began to fly around us and in between us.

"I hate pictures" Arin groaned. Zoe flew towards Arin, and dispersed a light blue light that scanned her completely.

"Arin Wolf " Zoe said, and flew back towards Cameo. "She's a feisty one" Zoe said and Cameo let of a chuckle.

"Be careful around her" Cameo joked and started to walk up the stairs leading towards the second floor. Arin was walking ahead of me, and I could tell she was a little embarrassed. I let off a smile to myself.

'Welcome to the 2nd floor" Cameo said once we reached the top. "Here we have living quarters, and the weapons section. Which is off limits until we officially begin training" He added. We followed him towards the end of the hallway on our left, and there were 4 doors, each with a set of 2 names on them.

"And so, we have living arrangements. We don't have all the space in the world, so you'll have to pair up. I hope that's alright with you guys" Cameo told us. I didn't mind having to room with anyone, would make things nice to know at least one person a lot better, since we'll be living with another person.

"Each room has a set of 2 beds and a bathroom. And your families sent some clothes and stuff and we have all basic necessities for you guys too, so don't worry about buying or missing anything" Cameo finished. "Zoe will be here all night if you need anything so just call for help. Have a good night guys and rest up" Cameo finished and gave us each a smile. He turned around and went down the hallway and entered into a door without a label.

"I don't know about you guys, but I'm exhausted" Jack said, and we all agreed. "So, it looks like I'm with Evan" He said, and I could sense a feeling of nerves in his voice.

"Hey, you're fine, I'm not as scary as I seem" Evan joked and wished us goodnight as him and Jack went into their room.

"Amalia and I are together" Maia said, and Amalia stepped forward and towards the door. Maia didn't speak a whole lot so sometimes I forgot she was even with us. "Goodnight guys" Maia said and entered into the room next to Jack and Evan's and Amalia followed.

"Yo Arin, let's go cause if I stand here any longer I'm going to fall asleep standing here" Reyna said and Arin chuckled.

"Yeah, let's get some sleep. Goodnight Orion and Avalon, nice meeting you guys" Arin said and they both took the 3rd room. The only room left was the one of the very end.

"Looks like we're up" Avalon said, and I felt relieved. Everyone seemed super nice and friendly, but I was very happy to be rooming with Avalon. Out of everyone, he's the one I trust the most, since we've been together the whole time as partners.

"Goodnight Orion Fallon and Avalon Atlas" Zoe said in her robotic voice and spun around again and hovered by the door of our room. Okay, she was a little creepy.

Avalon opened the door and I followed inside. It was time for some well needed sleep. Tomorrow was most likely the start of our training, and I have no idea what's waiting for me.
