I open my eyes and think I'm in my bed. The nice sheets and- my sheets don't feel like leaves. I bolt up and immediately regret that choice. I have a bad headache and my head feels like it split in two. I slowly look around and get a baring of my surroundings. I'm right off a road. I'm in a bush to.
I look at my wings. They look fine. I need to hide them though. No good in having something no one wants. My mom said that a lot. I concentrate and feel my wings get smaller. I'm not sure that it's supposed to feel like that but I do it anyway. I look around for my pack and find it a few feet from me.
I reach and pick it up. It's a little wet and dirty but that's nothing time can't solve. I get up and my head starts spinning. I fall or sit back down. I don't know what one it was. I look in my pack and see a few food items. I pull out and apple and start to chew on it. I immediately feel one hundred times better.
I stand up and walk to the pathway I feel to. It was just a empty gravel path. It looked kinda creepy like that. I pull out my map from my pack and look at it. If I'm smart enough to read a map, I should only be a few miles from the city. The one place I dreamed of. I start to walk in the road.
It was a lot more boring then flying. After I had walked maybe one hundred feet or so, I heard a sound from behind me. It seamed far but I wasn't going to test it so I stepped to the side of the road. As I the sound got closer into few, I saw it was a cart with some men in it.
They looked young and healthy. I debated walk a little into the forest so they wouldn't see me. These would be the first people that's not my family for friends I've talked to in years. As the cart approached, it came slowly to a stop. I guess they would like to see what I'm about.
"Hello lady. Can I help you in anyway? I'm heading into anglin for trading. I can offer you a ride. It's only a few miles from here." The man said
I was excited. I could finally get into the city. My mom always said to treat people with respect.
"That would be very nice. I will take you up on your offer. Is there anyway I can pay you back? I am being a burden." I hoped he would say no because I don't really want to pay him. It was polite thing to do.
"No lady. It is no trouble at all. Get in. We we'll be there in about half an hour." He said. I was glad he didn't ask me to pay.
I got in the wagon and we set off. It was interesting how normal people traveled. It would be much more effective to travel my wings but not everyone has them. I watched the forest around me. It put my at unease. The nice boy don't talk to me on the ride in. I was grateful for that.
After what seamed like an entirely, the boy spoke up.
"Lady. The city is about two minutes from now. I suggest you find a place to stay. Though from the state of your clothes and face, I know what happened to you. Go to the high part of the city. There you will find what you need. Don't worry, I won't tell." He said
I was in a state of shock. I guess fall through some trees would put me like that. I muttered a "thank you" to the boy. With a red face. The high part of the city? What does that mean?
I was still thinking when we saw some light. I'd never seen anything so pretty. The sun was just turning to it's full brightness and the city was still waking up.
It looked fake. So perfect. A chance to make a new life for myself in a new place where no one in my past could ever find me. Welcome to my new life.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's so amazing. It looks exactly of how a I remember and dreamed of every night. To the normal person it was probably just look like a normal city. To me though, this was heaven. The city was just waking up and It was packed wall to wall. Carts and horses everywhere and I loved every minute of it.
I snapped back into reality turned to the man in the cart. "Thank you for the ride. Is it easy to find the 'high part' of the city you talk about?" I said with as much courage as I could muster.
"Yes it is. It's just as it seams. Climb up the hill in the city. There you will find what you need." He said.
It sounded skeptical but I had nothing else to go off of so I nodded. "Thank you" I said for the last time and got off of the cart.
The man said nothing. Walked in to the city. On the streets was kids walking with there friends and adults and slaves hurrying to start the chores for the day.
There were lots of venders selling various clothes, food and items from other places. I had only had an apple since I left and was hungry. I continued to walk along the street until I saw a food vendor that I liked. I approached him
"Good morning sir. Can I have a croissant?" I said to the man. I don't want anyone to see the money I had so I pulled out only fifteen kuros to be safe.
"You can. What type would you like? Chocolate? Lemon? Raisin?" He said
"I will take a chocolate one please." I said
"Ok miss. That's 2 kuros." He said
"Ok." I said while passing him the money "Good day to you sir." I said while walking off with the croissant.
The croissant was still warm and I don't think I had tased anything better in my life. I finished it really quickly.
I continued to walk around the city and up the hill. I don't know what he meant. I decided to ask someone. Hopefully they knew what it meant.
I saw a female walking a little ahead of me. She also had a pack and looked to going up the hill to. I ran up to her and said,
"Excuse me. Do you know where the 'high part' of the city is?" I said to her. She turned to look to and I she looked around my age. Maybe I could be friends with her.
"Oh hi! I'm not sure where I'm going either. I was told that the up part of the city was were I should be going. I'm not sure what that means though. I'm pretty sure that the city stops at the top of this hill." She said. She had brown hair in a high ponytail and had some freckles on her face
"I know! That's what people told me! I'm so confused by them. What's your name? I'm Jasmine." I said. Hopefully I could get to know her if we where going to the same place.
"Oh I'm Ruby. Where are you from? My parents traveled so I'm from everywhere." Ruby. I liked that name.
"Oh same as you. I never stayed in one place for long." Truth by told, I don't know. My parents never told me.
"Cool! I'm been climbing up this hill for like thirty minutes. How about you?" Ruby said
"Same! The top looks like it's coming soon. I don't even know where I'm going." I said
Ruby and I talked about are life for a few minutes. I had to make most up since I don't know. Sad.
We feel into a comfortable silence for a few minutes before seeing the top of the hill. We were both super happy cause we had been walking for almost an hour in a whim of what random strangers told us.
"Ruby I think we're almost there!" I said
"I know! I feel like it's been an hour!" Ruby said
We were a few feet from the top.
"1,2,3!" We said in unison
We looked and saw
Nothing?
