Waking up after leaving Minecraft feels like waking up after having a really vivid dream. At least that's how I imagine it to be like. Except for this time, I was really confused. For one thing, I usually wake up in the basement, in my 'office' (which is really just an enclosed space with a computer and chair) but this time, I woke up in my bedroom, in my bed. Tucked in and everything.

"Ack!" I yelped. "Where am I? What happened? Why does it smell like Cheetos in here?"

Bryne (Galaxy) laughed. "Calm down, Tommy. One, we're in your room. Two, we just got back from Minecraft. Three..." She held up a 'party size' Cheetos bag.

"Oh," I said, feeling kinda stupid. "Well, uh... can I have one?"

"Sure." She threw me the bag. "I hope you don't mind... I noticed a bunch of snacks sticking out of your backpack... that's where I got the Cheetos."

"Nah, it's fine," I said. "No one knows about that stash except for me. And, well, also you, as of a few minutes ago. As long as you don't tell my mom and dad, you can have all the chips you want."

Bryne pumped her fist into the air. "Score!"

I laughed, throwing the bag of Cheetos back to her. She poured the entire thing into her mouth.

I blinked. "Bryne, what the..."

"Sorry!" she exclaimed. "Look, fighting works an appetite. You can't fight monsters and then not have anything to eat afterwards. It's just not allowed."

I rolled my eyes playfully. "Bryne, you're so weird. But weird in a good way!" I added, feeling as if I'd hurt her feelings. "You're a cool-weird. An amazing-weird. A hot-weird... I mean, uh... forget I said that!"

Bryne blushed. So did I. Awkward silence.

"...anyway," Bryne said. "You don't need to flatter me, Tommy. I know that I'm weird and a little crazy. But honestly... I'm insane and I love it!" She jumps backward onto my bed, but misses and then hits her head. "Oof."

I laughed. "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine!" she said, giggling her head off. "Oh, my God, I'm such an idiot..."

I want to say, "yeah, you are," but I don't.

"And don't worry, Bryne," I said. "Everyone's a little crazy if you think about it. I mean. I'm totally mental. If I was completely and totally sane, would I run at an army of monsters and risk my life like I do almost every month? At least? Answer: no."

"True," Bryne said. "Very true. And- no offense, of course- but I think your dad's a little insane as well. I mean, that whole plan he came up with to defeat Herobrine? It's mind-blowingly stupid. You'd have to be pretty amazing- or dumb- to pull that one off."

I nodded.

"Wait..." Bryne said, suddenly realizing something. "Your dad was supposed to destroy the computer that held Herobrine... shouldn't we have heard something by now?"

We froze, staring at each other, our mouths wide open, for about ten solid seconds. Then, we both jumped off the bed and ran downstairs as fast as we could.

"DAD!" I yelled, kicking open the door.

We didn't see my dad right away. The only thing we saw was my sister, Jenny. She was on the computer still playing. Her hair was a mess and her headphones were lopsided. She was even standing up and playing. Something told me she was in the middle of the battle.

"Shit, shit, shit," she muttered. "Uh-uh. No ya don't. Back off- AH! GODDAMMIT!!!" Her headphones slid down the side of her face, falling to the floor. Jenny scrambled to pick them back up and keep playing.

"Jenny?" Bryne asked. "Are you okay?"

Jenny looked at Bryne and I. "Oh, my God, you guys are awake!" she exclaimed. She grabbed the microphone and said, "hold on, guys. Gameknight and Galaxy are awake- I have to tell them what happened." She paused. "Of course I'll try to be nice about it."

I looked at Bryne for guidance as to what this meant. She shrugged.

Jenny paused the game and took her headphones off. "Hey," she said in a much calmer voice. "Listen, I need to tell you guys something."

"What is it?" Bryne said. "Did we get Herobrine? Is the computer destroyed? Did we win?"

Jenny took a deep, shaking breath. A tear rolled down her cheek. "Tommy... no."

"What?" I asked. "What do you mean, no?"

"I mean no," said Jenny. "We didn't get Herobrine. The computer's not destroyed. We lost."

"You mean..." Bryne gasped. "You mean Herobrine got out? He's in the physical world?"

Jenny nodded. "We tried everything we could, but it all of it just happened way too fast, and Dad and I couldn't keep up with him. I'm so sorry, guys." She started crying. Bryne hugged her.

"Don't cry, Jenny. It isn't your fault." Bryne turned to me. I was still frozen there; it was like my feet were glued to the ground. It was like I was glued to the ground. I couldn't believe this. How? How could this have happened?

"Tommy, if you need anything with this, I'll help you, I promise," said Bryne. "But..."

"No." That was the only word I could say. "No..."

Jenny pulled away from Bryne and hugged me instead. "Are you okay, Tommy?"

I didn't know what to say or do. I had temporarily gone into shock. Everything else in the world didn't matter. Herobrine was out there, somewhere in New York City, and I had no way to stop him from whatever he did.

He was coming for me, I knew it.
