Depression - Statistics and Prevalence 

- Globally, depression is the leading cause of disability, affecting over 300 million people

- Roughly 1/5 adults in the UK experience depression or anxiety at the clinical level 

- Depression is more common in females to males (1.3:1)

- Lifetime prevalence ~13%, with the median age of onset usually early to mid 20sprevalance higher with earlier onset in younger than older generations - Higher rates in urban areas vs rural areas.
