The cover picture is the view from the actual roof  that this is based on

It had been about a week since i'd been back at school, and they were already loading on the course work. Even drama had thrown at least 3 projects at me. i sat there in my photography class trying my hardest to focus on what Mr. Rolens was saying but the harder i tried the more distracted i became.

My mind had completely run away and was off deep in day dreams. it wasn't even clear to me what i was dreaming about but all i knew is that it was the kind of dream that when it ends you only wish for more, and thats what i did when my bliss got snatched away when i got a tap on the shoulder, i looked up from my desk to see a tall slender figure in front of my desk, Esme Williams, my ex girlfriend who can't see that

"we're over because you were making out with someone else" as a break up.

I didn't say anything as she just sort of loomed there like a moth to a flame, it must of been a good minuet and a half before she spoke to me.

"Hey Maxie, i was wondering if you wanted to work together for the 'city life project'? we could take one of those romantic river boat tours and visit the city gardens, like a romance shoot?" she said looking like she was going to burst with well im not actually sure, happiness? maybe.

I looked up into the dark blue eyes that used to make me fall at her feet and for the first time in a long time i felt nothing, nothing but a pure dislike to the not so sweet sweetheart of our school. i smiled as i could feel confidence coming back and simply said.

"No thanks im off to do a skate shoot on the roof, see ya" getting up from the chair i was sat in.

"But wait maybe we could-. i cut her off before she got the chance to reply.

"Maybe we could what? Esme? hmmm, your'e not my girlfriend now please move i have a lot to do" i said in a overly happy way to a wide eyed and gawking Esme.

I walked out of the room before leaning be though the door and facing her.

"Oh and close your mouth you'll catch flys". The tall girls mouth snapped shut as if it were the rubber band on a homemade slingshot, I smiled to myself as I skated trough the grounds and out of the gate on to the tarmac.

My board instinctively headed for the east side of the city as it did most days.
Half way to the roof I jumped off my board and began snapping shots of skaters and BMX riders outside the theatre as they gracefully jumped over makeshifts ramps and grinded along the waxed curb edge like I'd done many times. I sent them a friendly smile recognising a few from the roof, before heading in my way.

It didn't take long for me to reach the foot of the stairwell as if on autopilot my legs carried me up to the top of the graffiti filled passage, without a hint of hesitation snapping a few shots on the way up. I'd got a lot of good shots from there in the past of the boys and myself skating but the sunset from up there can only be described as breathtaking.

I squinted slightly as my eyes adjusted to the unfiltered daylight as it poured in with nothing to block its path.

I took I deep breath once I was at the top looking around at the empty space, made emptier by the absence of a sliver board on a drain pipe. I shook it out of my mind

"Come on max, get it together you don't even know the girl"  The voice in my head rang through me.

"shut up" I said aloud, as I placed my board down trying to get at least one descent photo, but it's just not happening.

In my frustration I threw my bag down before joining it on the ground lent up against the far wall my head falling heavily into my arms which were perched on my knees.
