Newt's P.O.V

I awake to the feeling of soft lips pressed against my temple, I open my eyes to find Tina's smile hovering above my face. I smile too, at my beautiful wife, even with sleep mussed hair. Tina gets a gleam to her eyes and starts to sing, "Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Newt, happy birthday to you." I groan and flip away from her singing, not that her pitch was bad, on the contrary she can hold a tone quite well, but the reminder that it is my birthday. Tina grabs my shoulder and flips me back over, her tinkling laugh sounding. She pins my arm down so I can't escape. She kisses me full on the mouth, then lays down facing me. I watch her eyes, then her lips, which she is biting (you know what I'm talking about). She opens her mouth and then closes it. She looks oddly nervous, so I ask, "Thought for a thought?" Tina seems to steel herself but nods and motions for me to begin. I glance at her lips again while saying, "Tina, every time I look at you, I feel as if I am dying and living all at once. I don't know why I waited so long to get the nerve to ask you to marry me." Tina turns her head to the side and blushes at the words, but I poke her in the ribs, signaling her to say something. Tina turns her head slowly to meet my eyes and begins, twisting the sheets, "well, I was going to wait to tell you tonight but now is a good as ever," I raise my brows at the words. "This is you first birthday present-" I groan cutting her off trying to squirm away, "Tina just forget my birthday, I don't want to be old." She holds my stare, this must be serious, I shut up. Tina hesitates a moment, "Um, I think you'll like this present, I hope you do." I nod encouraging her to keep going. "I, um, I," I have never seen her stumble for words before, I press a kiss to her cheek, hoping to give her some confidence. She wrings her fingers a few times before talking a deep breath and says, "Newt, I know you would someday like to have children, and my present to you is to start trying." It takes a few seconds for the words to register but when they do my heart fills with excitement and happy tears start to fill in my eyes. "Really Tina, you mean it? Don't feel like you have to do it for me." Tina looks almost as gleeful as me, but says steadily, "No Newt, I have been thinking about it and the only thing missing from my life is children. I have always wanted to be a mom." I pull her into a kiss, it starts soft but deepens into a deep, sinful thing. We only break apart to breathe, and then smile at each other in anticipation for the future, grand and shining.

A few hours later, I head down to the basement to do a midday check on the animals. The house is oddly quiet, I assume everyone is out exploring the city on this fine day. Tina's note on the kitchen counter suggested as much. The basement is dark as I enter, that's odd, I swear I left the lights on this morning. I wave my wand to illuminate the room, and five bodies shoot up, yelling, "SURPRISE!" I stagger back, heart pounding, as they yell again, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY NEWT!" Tina, Queenie, and Nagini runs up to me, wrapping me into a bone crushing group hug. When they let go, Tina still standing beside me holding my hand, I insist, "There was no need to do this, it's just another day." Jacob standing behind Credence says, "It's not just any day, it's a day to appreciate you." I shake my head in disagreement but Tina squeezes my hand hard enough to get me to stop arguing. My friends lead me to a wooden table in the middle of the basement, on it is a large pile of presents and a glorious two layered cake. The cake is white frosted but has creatures winding up the side, each creature with precise detail. I make eye contact with Jacob and breathe, "It's amazing, Jacob" He just smiles at me and passes out party hats. Queenie takes a knife and cuts the perfect cake into pieces and give me the first piece, while singing the birthday song in tune with the others. I close my eyes and make a wish blowing out the candle on my piece. Queenie squeals at my wish, and I blush. Truth is I wished for a baby girl, with Tina's mind and looks. We all sit down at the table couples across each other. All of us groan in pleasure as we tear into the cake. Soon we are thick in conversation recounting all of our adventures in the past years. Sitting here in my basement surrounded by my creatures and friends laughing and happy, I think to myself, maybe birthdays aren't so bad.
